Energy Suppliers

I'm with Scottish Power on a single rate tariff, my unit rate is 12.63p and the daily standing charge is 19.18p. According to my little energy monitor connected to the meter, my usage for last few months for a 2-bed flat (although I live on my own) has been about £40.

Edit: Forgot to add, my tariff was one that didn't even appear on the SP website, it was only available via a certain price comparison site which really narked me as I was an SP customer before anyway. That said, it was super easy to do it.

Electric heaters here too, no gas.

Compared to the general crappy customer service coq ups ten years ago switching is pretty straightforward these days just use a comparison site. It doesn't hurt to keep your meter readings up to date but most providers only seem to recalibrate direct debits twice a year at best. The npower app used to be great but the prices weren't competitive enough to justify them last few times I changed.

Dual tariff with outfox the market, pay 12.34p per kwh electricity, and it's all renewable. Gas is very cheap too. Been talking to quite a few solar panel fitters recently, and they've all been quite surprised at how cheap it is.
Interesting. With these I've just checked and rates are way lower

Supplier name: Outfox The Market. Tariff name: CLEAN E FIX'D 1.0. Tariff type: Fixed. Tariff term: 12 months. Payment method: Direct Debit. Electricity unit rate: £0.1357 per kWh. Electricity standing charge: £0.2112 per day. Exit fees: N/A.

All rates and prices are inclusive of VAT at 5%.

I have received an email from Bulb about rates going up

So, what do other pay for electric rates. Almost £110/month for an electric only 2 bed flat seems ridiculous

I got the same, although we're paying £70 p/m for a 3 bed house. Problem is that we've got an electric cooker/oven so hardly use gas which is cheaper. As a company Bulb have been straight forward, E.On were a nightmare. Might look at GNE if they're still around...

Yeh, there online customer service is great. Reason i've stuck with them.

Think i'll hold out a month and see what the price increase looks like. I'll look at the "CLEAN E FIX'D 1.0" tariff with outfox the market. Thanks Unseul

Bear in mind Outfox the Market have poor customer service.

Have to say that when I've emailed them, I've usually had a reply within 24 hours. I guess I've not had a serious issue to try and deal with. I think I'm also on a monthly contract, so can quite easily just drop them as and when I wish.

What poor experience have you had with them in the past? The chat facilty Bulb have is very good. Might be worth the few quid extra each month (but not £30 or £40 a month!)
It's not from personal experience. If you go on Money saving expert, the ratings and reviews are poor.

I had problems switching from outfox to bulb, had to get the bank to revert the last 2 direct debits which was a lot easier than expected.
Thanks both. So cheaper but worse, seens about right.
I’ll see how i get on with Bulbs new rates and maybe query why they are so high compared to other (like at outfox) It’s clearly a lie about energy prices if they are more expensive than others.
Here’s their waffle - https://bulb.co.uk/blog/energy-price-watch-were-changing-our-prices-sept-20

Scottish power here also ,bills have been around £22 a month but dd £25 ,most of this is electric oven /hob as heating is oil(but driven by electric obviously) on a fix until April 15.8 ish kwh and 16 standing charge a day

Those rates are terrible, mine are 13.72p day, 4.5p night, 25p standing charge, so I pay ~2p more/day, but 2p less/unit vs your old rate!

We have gas too, but pay £115/month for both for a 3 bed house with 2 kids, charging the car a couple of times a week, and we're ~£450 in credit atm

What supplier with those rates? Ever had to speak to / email them?

Should add my standing rate for electricity is 10.88p a day, gas is 10.78. Both excluding the 5% vat. Still very very good. 2.63p per unit of gas.

Was considering their smart meter (got quite a few emails) but like you I'll wait to see the effect of the increase before I look to switch.

That's with Octopus on their Go tariff. Yeah I've spoken to them a few times, first time was a question about my meter compatibility, got an email reply within 10 minutes, and a couple of billing queries, always had a reply to email/Web form within 24 hours. Only phoned them once and although it took a couple of minutes to get through, they were able to solve my issue pretty quickly when I got to speak to someone
