Not everyone pays by credit card though. I paid by debit card and the funds were taken from me instantly. That's £700 that is out of my account, with no guarantee that stock will even arrive at OC this year. It just seems nuts to me that you'd want to risk this, when you could just get a refund and order again when things settle down.

... and for you that makes sense, but I don't think it ranks as 'mind blowing' that many will have used a credit card and for them it makes far more sense to sit tight in most cases.

Everyone is different so 'you do you' as they say :)

If you think about the simple order system order comes in, sits awaiting payment confirmation. Payment confirmed - passed to warehouse to allocate, in stock allocate and pick. Pick and ship. Its a chain with steps. So payments that cleared fastest got product first simple because they got further through the chain. The system won't have any sense of fairness of order numbering I highly doubt. I don't know their order system but why would you? For a retailer the faster they get their product out the more they can sell it's efficient but not fair.

You will get an order number at the point you place the order but that doesn't mean you get stock allocated at that point. I suspect they allocate once payment is cleared which makes sense as payment could get declined. So your order number might not be overly representative of your queue place. That could go in either direction, worse or better.

Expect 3090 to be just as bad I would say as a halo product is lightly to be more limited in stock but costs more so you might have less demand but given the way people seem to have loads of money despite covid 19 I guesstimate it's going to be as bad or worse.

Hopefully they introduce a captcha before then, probably not likely or just be prepared. Pay by paypal if you intend to by from OCuK as that payment processes fastest which automatically gets you faster through the chain of ordering.

I doubt even if they put pre-order up early you'd end up with a fair order chain because place in queue probably happens at the stock allocation point which happens after payment is confirmed. So people ordering with 2 different payment methods will get treated differently.

Of course you could change your order chain and make everyone happy by not requiring payment confirmation to allocate in a pre-order status which would give you a fair queue position but then when payment is required you are back in your status of some payment methods processing faster in the chain getting stock allocated faster so not fair again.

You don't want to move payment processing to the end of the chain before dispatch because you'd have packages hanging around in your warehouse waiting for payment confirmation and if declined potentially have to unpack product or just have product sitting around.

All of this is my speculation but it all stands to reason when you think about it. So if you know the system you can play it better next time.

Systems aren't fair unless designed to be that way and we are talking about a system to maximise efficiency and make money. It's never going to be fair.

As always best of luck getting your cards but expect 3070 and 3090 to be very similar

Reading through this I realised I have used my OC number to cancel one of my orders. I never got a confirmation email only the out of stock one, so used the form and the number from my account which is the OC one.

Would be good to know if they will still work it out? I have two orders and only want one cancelled, with the other to run. Different OC numbers so should be OK?

I mean if someone sells their GPU expecting it to come soon, they should have done their research.

The research suggests there was a very limited stock to begin with.

But there are those, that would have needed to sell, to be able to afford a new graphics card.

I sold my 2080ti a couple of months ago to be ahead of the selling crowd, so it worked out well for me, picked up a cheap rtx 2080 for £257.99...which is fine for me.

Plus Gibbo did state, they where expecting good levels of stock for the Web site.... No one to blame etc, but still feel a bit sorry for those folks with no GPU and a potential long wait.

And given my order at 14.54, only 1100 orders across all of the store between 14.03 and 14.54, so any of us who ordered in the first hour might be closer to the front of the queue than we thought.

I think from what gibbo said that first hour orders should get their cards by end of September which seems about right with 1100 orders though and they had about 300 in stock with more cards coming this week.

I can see a few thousand cancelling orders which means we have less time to wait.
Hmm lets encourage people to cancel orders then lol.... hahahaha..... I heard the MSI is the worse version of the bunch, not really, but cancel away so that I can be lower in the queue than 8056043 lol

That's me at the moment, but I did sell the RTX2070 Super for £350 and I knew in advance the card I want wouldn't even be available until late October so I went into it with full knowledge. Having a laptop with a port replicator makes it so much more bearable as well!
