Why would they match a 3090 and not charge slightly less than a 3090? They are also a greedy company after all.

Its not even going to trade blows with a 3080. I reckon between 3070 and 3080 perf for 600 quid.I cant see something that trades blows with a 3090 being half the price, but I wouldnt say no if they felt like being generous!

I think AMD have planned all along to meet or overtake the RTX 2080 TI, that's what has always been said for 'Big Navi'. Nothing more, nothing less. Beating the RTX 2080 TI was a big deal (still is), but since the RTX 3070 is due to be released for £470, it could steal AMD's thunder.
It's a shame we have no way of knowing for sure the performance of the PS5 GPU. I've realised that simply adding 29.4% (the clock rate increase vs the RX 5700) to the performance of the RX 5700 is too simplistic.
It's upto 29.4%, but 2/3 of that is probably more realistic (based on the perf. increase seen from overclocking the RX 5700).

Judging by the 3080 release its going to be scalped and short supply, sometimes this can play into competitors hands.
Playing devils advocate here, if an AMD card was between the two it kind of infers what the price is going to be doesnt it? When the dust settles typically AMD would end up having the 6700 which in this hypothetical discussion costing the same as a 3070 yet with 'fine wine' ends up being same as the 3080. If it has 16Gb vram I would take that to be fair - especially if you can have one next day delivered after buying - sometimes the mindshare thing has its benefits!

Yeah, my irony detector went off the scale on that one as well. Then I saw who posted it and it all made sense. No disrespect to this individual but they show zero understanding of how GPU architecture or IPC works. RDNA2 is an evolution of RDNA1 and will have many IPC and architectural improvements. No different from Turing to Ampere.
My biggest concern with AMD cards in general is they're not great for content creation when it comes to recording. The AMF encoder sucks and NVIDIA wins for me due to NVENC as it's part of my job. (Streaming, editing and content creation). That single feature for me is critical so I REALLY hope AMD pulls their finger out and works some magic with the AMF encoder else even if its 200% faster than the 3080 it's still not going to work for my use case.
I think RDNA 2 is a brand new architecture, because it fully enables DX12 Ultimate support - RDNA 1 doesn't support it and needs heavy modifications in order to do it: variable rate shading, real-time ray-tracing, hardware GPU scheduling, etc...

I will be honest I had plans to test out the streaming with the radeon software as it has lots of stuff to be able to do this. Then family distractions and time ticks by I never got round to it. Maybe some other posters can update on how good this is for creation.
Ummm... RDNA 1 supports hardware GPU scheduling...
Also, RDNA 2 is not a new architecture IMO but an evolution of RDNA 1 which was an evolution/redesign of GCN(which is why there are bits left of GCN in RDNA 1). So you could say that RDNA 1 has been the bridge to the actual design AMD wanted from the beginning. Now GCN and RDNA 2 will most likely look very different but with RDNA 1 in the middle, its like a soft transition.

I think this is a realistic. But they need VOLUME on launch. Not a paper launch aka RTX 3080.
That would be commercial suicide from AMD.

Sadly we got to wait till OCT 28 to see that, and then probably face a paperlaunch.

But its not out tomorrow is it. It will be out when 30xx stock issues have mostly been sorted, and if it isnt as fast as a 3080 but they still want £600 for it, they won't sell many (in comparison to the 3080).
Why would AMD make a 3070< for £150 more?
No matter how fast it is, the drivers will probably spoil the card. AMD haven't had a good launch, driver wise, for many years. Their software always lets down their hardware. Hopefully it's not the case this time.
