NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Does the Ampere launch give the lie to the statement we see on the forum that we represent a tiny niche when it comes to GPU buyers? Or is it that general consumers see the 3080 as better than the 2080Ti at a 'reasonable' price so want in? Or is the demand all down to the scalpers?

I think it comes down to 2 things:

Nvidia only had 1 and a half months for manufacturing, this is across AIB cards as well so stock was never going to meet demand. You're talking thousands of cards hitting the market but there's hundreds of thousands of people wanting one.
Scalpers (aka scum) bought a lot of the available stock at large, so what little stock was available was quickly taken up to be flipped for profit.

Like with all things, it will settle eventually and its just a matter of time... we're talking months though and not weeks.

Very true. I suppose we'll see in next year's Steam Hardware Survey results how much of an impact the cards have really made on the market.

I think the leap in RT performance from the 2080 to 3080 is pretty good

Am waiting to see the RT performance leap from the 2080ti to the 3090

The non OC version?

From my research it seems all the cards whether factory overclocked or not all pretty much perform within a few percent of each other.

I should just go for the cheaper TUF myself but the irrational part of my brain keeps pulling me towards the OC version.
