Says the guy willing to pay an extra £150-£200 for extra 10gb vram on a 3080:p

Is it because you have bought a 10GB 3080 that you are going so bat-**** nuts and obsessed about this VRAM thing? I guess it must be, I used to do the same when I was a kid and wanted to defend my hardware purchases even when there was no need need to.

What resolution do you game at by the way? :)

I have 1440p and 4k monitors for gaming.

Bargain then :p
Better to pay 950ish than 1500 no? :P or even better, save your money on this failed nVidia launch and see what the competition has to offer before spending :P ouch.. just saw your sig bud, i'm just messing with ya, no hard fellings right? :). I got Vega 64 and sure, I would love to get something else, but it does fine actually playing my games at 1440p so I wait.

Richdog, don't start writing silly things, you've managed to be sensible so far so please stick with it ;)

No hard feelings at all. You and everyone else in the Navi thread already knew I was going nvidia this time around anyway. No shock there. Plus I don’t get why people get so wound up that they have hard feelings. Just a hobby we all enjoy, no point getting upset over things said over an Internet forum imo, though I do appreciate it can happen at times :)

Yea, if I was on 1440p I would not be in a rush to upgrade from a Vega 64 either. Definitely worth waiting :)

Stolen off Reddit. Someone pulled this from a Mac beta driver I believe.

I was serious. You are starting to go over the top with this VRAM spiel, bringing it into multiple threads. I can't be the only one who is noticing it.... it's getting a bit silly and repetitive now.

Every thread? Exaggerating much?

Seems you didn’t like what I said and now getting upset. It’s ok for you to go around in “every thread” insinuating/calling 3090 users mugs, but when called up on being happy to pay £200 extra for 10gb vram, instead of replying explaining your choice you get emotional and accuse me of being childish and defending my hardware choice? Jog on mate ;)

TNA I don't care if you have a differing opinion... the fact you think I do already shows me that you are not used to having adult discussions in real-life outside of your bedroom. I am happy with you thinking 10GB is enough for this generation, just as I am happy buying a higher VRAM card. Your way of discussing things is equivalent to some shrill teenager getting overly defensive about any perceived criticism of things he likes. As I said, I used to do it a lot too when I was younger... then I grew up. Enjoy your card. :)

Do you go around calling people buying 3090 mugs in RL? Mic drop ;)

I haven't seen workstation reviews but folks are suggesting that it's a bargain for creative works with uncompressed textures..

I was looking to build a SLI rig with the 3090s ofc for gaming purposes... stumbled upon GN's review and got this huge remorse..Though I still don't have that option technically speaking, cuz I would need a 3 slot sli bridge which is not available atm

What's your plan now? I can see the point of the halo card for work and for wealthy/only hobby gamers. If you enjoy it and you don't have to go into debt or make compromises elsewhere go for it. I'm more of a price to performance kind of person to get my money to stretch further. Too many interests :)

Agree 100% on those sentiments! Between PC gaming, photography, board gaming, my car and various sports it's a real balancing act to decide which purchases give you the most value for each (car definitely the worst of the lot)! I think when AMD releases Big Navi it will come down to whether to buy a 6900XT or a 3080. The decider for me will be if AMD can release something that performs as good or better than the 3080, for a lower price, which would then in my mind compensate for the superior software features of Nvidia cards (like DLSS). Plus, we have to keep an eye on all of these reports of 3080's having technical issues.

Made a last minute edit there..

And no it's purely for gaming don't do any creative sorts...am debt free, but haven't been able to overcome the remorse, and I don't want to be seen as a fool who can be easily parted with his money either, the pressure of social image eventually creeps up to you.

I get all that, except the DLSS part. Why is DLSS even a thing to consider when it's only used in so few titles? If it worked on all games or at least just the ones with TAA I would get the appeal.

Why are you only thinking of now... don't you also think ahead when making purchases? It really does provide a notable improvement in performance without sacrificing visual quality, has received a lot of acclaim from users and media, and clearly it is going to be implemented in a lot of future titles in 2021/2022. It will prolong the life of GPU purchases as it will increase performance at higher resolutions, or even allow higher resolutions or settings to be used where they otherwise wouldn't be the power to do so. It's an impressive technology that has some significance.

In the end only what you think matters... but I find it hard to believe that anyone could buy 3090 SLI's and not then later regret it, given what we know about it so far.

My issue with DLSS is it leaves the door open for devs to actually be a bit lazy with fidelity as they can leverage DLSS to cover for them so to speak.

Was looking into wafer yields this morning after reading someone from this forum spouting nonsense saying 7nm wasnt good.

Well actually 7nm is extremely well with regards to yields but not only that 5nm is actually ahead of where 7nm was at 5nms current state, which bodes well for the future. But even better news us TSMC has leveraged EUV and it looks like their 6nm node is an EUV refined 7nm which brings abit more performance, and it seems 7nm products can be moved to 6nm easier than going to 7nm+, and 6nm us supposedly cheaper due to being able to use EUV stages.

What this means is AMD can do a refresh on some products to a cheaper better performing node, nuch like they respun to Zen+ etc

I think AMDs partnership with TSMC is paying huge dividends, they took the fight to Intel, Nvidia using what seems to be an inferior Samsung 8nm node, may leave them open to AMD chasing them with 7nm and potentially refining with 6nm
