AMD Navi 23 ‘NVIDIA Killer’ GPU Rumored to Support Hardware Ray Tracing, Coming Next Year

CX support freesync. Tell me which AMD card has hdmi 2.1 and support hdmi forum vrr so I can test?

BTW, sitting on your behind waiting for someone else to do something so you can benefit is terrible way of doing business. Nvidia did the work and certified 2019 LG line, even with xbox you can use vrr.

Have I upset you some how?

2.1 is needed for 4k/120hz , HDMI 2 will do 4k/60hz vrr

How has AMD sat on their behind ? From what I remember it was AMD that pushed for VRR to be put in the spec in the first place

Regards the LG range, Nvidia has certified them for use as a "G-sync compatible" then pushed their branding on the box, Nothing more, nothing less. Nvidia/G-sync is not even mentioned anywhere in the settings of the CX only AMD Freesync

And Nvidia has done such a fantastic job certifying them too, broken 4k/120hz g-sync with LG's latest and greatest

Regards the xbox , I think you've faied to realise/remember that the Xbox has AMD CPU/GPU in it too ;)

The dream for me would be for the Zen launch to demonstrate their 5ghz gpu in a pc pulling awesome framerates with a mystery gpu and they say "oh yeah you can get this thing next month".

Ooft!

Yep something like this would get the internet forums burning. A demo of gaming performance zen3 vs Intel showing fps higher than currently possible on any GPU. But they usually include the PC specs in the footnotes so probably wouldn't be that mysterious

Stop it, he’s dead already! :p

Im gonna be patient. Its not like the 3080s are going to be back in stock and £649 any time soon (maybe 2021). The way I see it, I would rather spend under £500 but I know that wont buy me a "high end" card from either brand. If RNDA2 can get solid 4k experience (I have 4k monitor) I will try and select the best value card in the stack. Another reason I didnt get too excited about the 3080 is my display is freesync. Still keeping my options open.

It sounds like you might not need the highest end card. An RDNA 2 card in the £500-600 range should run 4K reasonably well, and the next card down (around £500) could also be a capable 4K card with a few settings turned down. This is of course based on my assumption that top end RDNA 2 won't be an £800-£1000 enthusiast option that closes in on the 3090. It's really difficult at this stage to speculate on that.

You could then sell your RDNA 2 card before RDNA 3 comes along and recover 80% of its cost because for some unknown, bizarre reason, GPUs are fetching ridiculously high prices on the used market (people are currently buying used 5700XTs on eBay for over £300, as of yesterday!)

RDNA 3 isn't so far off. We could even see it as early as end of 2021. That's the one that really intrigues me at the moment, even more than RDNA 2, since we know so little about it and what it can do. It might be a good upgrade for RDNA 2 and ampere owners who are able to sell their cards at just the right moment in time (just like those 2080ti owners who sold their cards for around a grand in August).

I suspect we are only 8 days away from seeing the 1st RDNA2 benchmarks albeit to show off the performance of Zen3 :D
I'm usually quite impartial about GPUs, since 3DFX died I've had a mostly even split of ATi/AMD and Nvidia cards. However I have to say, with RDNA2 this close and Nvidia still unable to guarantee a fully functional product in realistic numbers, it's beginning to look a LOT like they knew the 3080 wasn't ready for launch but rushed it out the door anyway and strong-armed AIBs to do the same in order to tie up preorders before AMD showed off a cheaper 3080 alternative.

Agree, I revised though from my vega purchase as when it was reasonable to buy (£299) it had already been out just over a year. This meant it wasnt very long and the 5700XT was out which wasnt way better but made you rethink when is the best time to get most out of a new gen.

Also from what you mention, it seems like there is much more options to get quality visuals via custom res then upscale adding in RIS should be possible on a lower stack version, will see whats on offer.

I'm surprised people are still playing the "tier" game.

1) How much does it cost?
2) How fast is it?

That's all that matters if you're not shopping for e-peen.

1) The 3080 costs less than the 2080Ti
2) The 3080 is faster than the 2080Ti

Well put. But you see, it's upsetting for people who spent too much on the RTX 2080 TI :)

Putting TI on things, and charging a lot confuses some people.

Not sure why it would be upsetting, had a decent time of it playing at 4K when few other cards could manage, and now the next gen's come out. What's to be upset about?

If you were to buy a 3080 now at the inflated prices we've seen, and AMD release something better and cheaper in a week or four, that might be a different matter...

Want to get the 30xx or Navi, but should i sell my 2060 ko now and use my old graphic card. will i be in time for for cyberpunk
Your 2060 shouldn't lose much if any more value. These cards that are coming are all in an entirely different (higher) price bracket. I'd say keep hold of it.

I struggle to understand anyone who had a decent time with a 2080ti.

It's pocket change for some, but still throwing money away for what it is.

It was the only show in town for 4k. It's dropped in price now, sure, but it never was an investment. Personally I don't understand why people spend tons of extra money on fancied-up versions of cards - my 2080Ti Palit clown card at £990 got me more or less the same performance as cards people paid £1200-1500 for...

Mine was also a company purchase, as part of a workstation, for graphics and AI stuff. So no VAT and as an expense the purchase was taken out before various other taxes. The impact on my pocket was under £400.
(and no, I don't consider this dodgy, I do use it for work and for learning new skills)

(edit -- sorry, I'd like to apologise for yet more nvidia talk in the AMD thread - I'm really excited about big navi, and Zen 3. Go AMD!)

I have wasted money on more frivolous stuff before, but there was something insulting about they way Nvidia did it. It was like they thought we were all a bunch of idiots that could be brainwashed into forgetting the progress that came with every generation before Turing/...if they just said "ray tracing" over and over.

-Like a modest performance improvement over last generation is supposed to almost double the price...because "ray tracing."

My reaction to the 2080Ti then, was similar to my reaction to 3080 scalpers' ads now. "I'm not buying it."
