about the same perf. increase for this gen too at 4k, except the RTX 3080 is cheaper than usual NV rip off pricing. still too rich for my blood, but affordable for some.

Another reason for the delay to the RTX 3070, is that it gives NV more time for people to buy a RTX 3080 (after the poor stock supply and crashing problems) without customers potentially picking the cheaper rtx 3070 instead. Actually, this could be the main reason for the delay, Ive looked around and you can buy a RTX 3080 thats in stock, just not a (likely cheaper) FE version yet.

Last gens top performer was an embarrassing 30% faster than the previous gen 1080ti for $1200, take off your green tinted specs.

By the same token the 3080 is only about the same amount faster than a 2080 Ti. Had the latter been priced in line with previous generations the 3080 would not be nearly so well received. But the Ti was £1000 and the 3080 is £650-750 so it's a moot point.

£650 3080s aren't even a reality these days.

Lots of ppl are saying the RTX 3070 is crap already (AMD fanboys maybe?). Not sure why, looks like a pretty nice GPU to me. its unusual for the lowest end card to meet or exceed the performance of the last gens top performer. Will be interesting to see the perf. of overclocked models.

I know NV could also release a GPU for gaming at lower resolutions too, perhaps this year, but im just going ith whats been announced so far.

Its probably cause people like Asus at £679 already have the price of the 3070 higher than you can buy many makes of 3080 (if you could buy one atm)

Thats appalling value.

What? AMD wouldve released at the same time as their new CPUs if they could have. People will try to invent other reasons for the later RDNA 2 launch, but they are unlikely to be true, AMD would sell more CPUs and GPUs by combining the launches.

Modern CPUs arent really causing a bottleneck, you can still get 60 fps in nearly all games even at higher resolutions.

Trouble is the last time they released both the GPU got over shadowed and reviewers were not happy to do both in such a short time frames HUB said this.

The 3080 only really hits it's stride at 4k, the gains are a bit less impressive at lower resolutions - will be interesting to see where that leaves the 3070 at 1440p. I'll wait and see what the 3070 and 5700/5800 models come out price wise and where they are placed at 1440p. My existing card is pretty good at this resolution, but I wouldn't say no to some higher refresh rates.

I am still confused how 5120 shaders are supposed to compete against 8700..could someone find an explanation.. seems like clock speeds alone cannot explain this, I was looking at few articles that suggest AMDs new cache hierarchy reduces cache misses..was anyone able to build a theory around this?

There seems to be a paper that suggests 22% IPC increase for a new cache hierarchy (don't know if it will be implemented).. so those 5120 cores are effectively equal to 6250 nvidia cores

I am jumping to conclusions here .. but does that mean AIBs have started manufacturing the RX6xxx series?

Rumor Mill says that AMD will ship unbranded reference boards (and coolers?), so the first wave may only have the AIB sticker on it. If that's the case then expect custom boards from Sapphire and Powercolor some time afterwards.

If the 3080 and 3090 did not move the dial on 1080p performance that is why the 3070 is potentially DOA.

What we don't know, is of course, what the AMD story is on 1080p performance.

I know many of us want another '9700 Pro' moment, but probably best to manage expectations in the "somewhere in-between 3070 and 3080" range!

RTX 3080 is 100% faster than RX 5700 XT.

If RTX 3070 is around 70 - maximum give or take 80% faster than the RX 5700 XT and you want the Big Navi Navi 21 to be around that performance, that will be again a card lackluster in all metric - IPC improvement, TDP, performance per watt, performance per transistor, performance per die area, etc.

Normal people expect RTX 3090 performance give or take because of a new from the ground up architecture!

Performance at UHD 2160p:
