not getting a RTX 3070 or 3080, not everyone is a NV or AMD fanboy... Im considering the top RDNA 2 GPU now though, especially if the price is the same/ lower than the RTX 3070.

Oh no, some still think AMD is holding back their best card lol. Like a secret weapon that is never used.

AMD are showing their best GPU, it beats the RTX 3070 and RTX 2080 TI. Why on earth would they show the performance of their lower end GPU first, thats just stupid.

Maybe more will be possible later, with factory OC models. Thats a good result, considering the 5700 XT struggled to keep up with the 1080 TI.

Who knows? nVidia didn't drop the numbers for the full range of of their new cards in one go after all.

Very interesting reveal at the end there which answers some questions and confirms a few leaks. The lower tier card they showed off is roughly on par with the 3080 while consuming much less power - we knew one of their lower tier cards would compete with the 3070 but to have it competing at the high end is absolutely huge. They're further ahead than most of us imagined they would be.

This then puts their top tier card decisively above the 3080 in performance while using much less power. The only question I'm left with now is how close the top end RDNA 2 card will be to the 3090. Considering how closely they are guarding RDNA 2 information and their approach to marketing this time around, signs firmly suggest they'll claim both CPU and GPU performance crowns very soon.

Makes zero sense to show their absolute best right now when they gave a launch scheduled for 2 weeks time, this was just a sneak preview.
I am not sure I see the benefit in holding it back.

There are many thousands of people in a queue for a 3080 at the moment. As AMD, you want to make those people cancel their 3080 pre-order and wait a number of weeks/months to buy your product.

I appreciate that there probably won't be a huge number of people receiving 3080s in the next three weeks and Nvidia is doing a fine job of getting people to cancel their pre-orders anyway but, if you're AMD, surely the earlier you start showing people you have a competing product, the better? Furthermore, wouldn't demonstrating that you have a product that is better than the 3080 be more likely to win over those 3080 buyers than showing one that is potentially just slightly under the performance of a 3080?

It's shaping up to be an epic derailment like the Polaris launch :p

Pete did you get your queue number for the 3080? :p

Sadly I agree but disagree. The dedicated mindshare is embedded deeper than people think. Those that have bought well ahead of AMD release date care not about it. You may get a handful, no more than 10 that post on this thread who 'might' cancel.

You also have a lot that say "if it can beat the 3080 and be £200 cheaper and give me a Zen3 gift voucher and.." basically wont switch.

No one has been proven anything until we actually find out what the details are... no one here knows that AMD just showed us their top card, no one here knows that they didn’t.

AMD (masters of chaos it seems) managed to show us a little something but leave us with more questions than answers... 3 more weeks of people believing what they want to believe to suit their own world views. Yikes!

The only thing we now know for sure is that one of AMD’s upcoming cards comes somewhere close to the 3080 in at least some games. That is quite literally the only extra knowledge we just gained. We don’t know where that card falls in their stack, we don’t know how it will be priced, we don’t know the ray tracing performance, we don’t know of any additions/enhancements to the software/feature stack.

We are only a little more in the know than Jon Snow.

What did he say?

Pretty sure it went something like this, big Navi will be 20 to 40% faster than 5700xt, a few seconds later it was a 3080 competitor. Guy was basically pulling numbers out of the air

The only ones who has said big Navi will be a contender is golly gosh llllllllladies and gentlemennnnn my name is Paul, and the other Paul from NAAF.

Coreteks just finished digging the grave his channel reputation will be buried in

Given this was AMD loud and proud I don't believe they'd have held back some teasers if they had such a product even if they didn't fully show what they had.
Utter tosh. This was AMD loud and proud about RYZEN. This was not about Big Navi and I'm very surprised we even got this level of teaser. If this teaser got any bigger it'd be a full-blown reveal.

If I recall correctly, Paul from NAAF believed that the other Paul may actually work for AMD at some capacity. He didn't elaborate on it though.

But the rumor still stands for now. Top Big Navi might be faster then a 3080. We will see how true that is once the benchmarks are released

If they had a better card, they would have shown it.
um no, that's what the 28th is for. Surely the concept of 2 separate events isn't that big a challenge to comprehend. Plus everybody has been crying about zero Big Navi info, demanding AMD show everything immediately, yet when we get official ******* confirmation that AMD has some form of Big Navi that draws parity with the 3080 it's still not enough? There's just no pleasing some people.

Im happy with the info that was shown today. The only people who aren't are the ones claiming (for no apparent reason), that there is still more to come this year for RDNA 2 graphics cards.

Could you imagine nVidia using an AMD card?
If AMD were the de facto standard that Nvidia were trying to beat then of course 100% they would use the AMD card. But Nvidia is a bad example because they're not demonstrating a CPU.

It is literally this simple: the 2080 Ti is the card reviewers use to test CPUs in games. It is also the card used in pro esports at 1080. This is where Intel hold the gaming crown, and it is here that AMD need to compete.

So, in order for AMD to demonstrate they have no beaten Intel in gaming, they must use as identical a system as possible for accurate comparisons to be drawn. That system will include the benchmark graphics card, it just so happens to be from Nvidia. AMD using one of their own cards would be meaningless.
