Its difficult, what are you going to do?

Re: my earlier post. So i'm looking for an 8 core CPU, 5800X is too expensive, 10700K is only £375, Intel are now the budget brand....

But hold on, thinking again. AMD's IPC is now so high the 8 core 16 thread 10700K is still a worse CPU than the 6 core 12 thread 5600X, Single thread performance AMD are just taking the pee at this point Intel cannot get in sight, Multithreaded performance because the IPC is so much higher than Icelake is not going to be any faster if even as fast as the 6 core Zen 3, which will run at 80 watts tops, vs 200 Watts, and £280 vs £380 of the 10700K.

AMD are in a position to make Intel look bad no matter which way you look at it.

 Whats happened to the 5700xt?

People expecting AMD to be cheaper when their performance is on par or greater is just laughable, they're a business!

oH YE of little faith. You must be too young to remember the likes of the 4850 and 4870 card which battered Nvidias 260 and 280 cards and forced them to drop the price by £100 and even refund that £100 to every person who had bought the 280 a few weeks before?

Didn't most of us think another 4870 moment was coming with the 5700xt, then it turns out to be £50 cheaper than a 2070 a year later?

Wouldn't hold out for that ever happening again :(:(

Would welcome this again. :)

Are you not mixing that up with the 5870 and 5850?

EDIT: The 4xxx cards did force nVidia to bring in price cuts but they weren't battering them on performance.

I may indeed have picked the wrong cards which forced the price refund but the 4870 offered 80% of the performance of the gtx280 for half the money,

That would be like AMD bringing out a 3070 performance card today for £325 offering 80% of the 3080 performance. I think they can do better than.

As I showed in 2 posts about Gears 5 and Borderlands 3, that’s not the case at all. 4K results were close to 3080 FE

And it won't be the 6900XT, AMD aligned their naming scheme with Nvidia, the 5700XT v 2070S, 5600XT v 2060S etc. So why would they have the 6900XT go against the 3080? If their top card did go against the 3080 they'd call it the 6800XT. But from what people have figured out, there will be a 6800XT, 6900 and 6900XT for Navi 21.

4000 series cards forced nVidia to drop prices but it was the 5000 series that kicked the 200 series in the teeth and nVidia didn't have a response until Fermi ~6 months later.

nVidia normally wouldn't even have a xx90 card so something has gone awry somewhere.

It's the same old story, AMD can't win cause Nvidia mindshare, and it's been true in the past. Things have changed however, thanks to the smartphone we can now do some quick research on the fly and even joe average consumer knows how to do it unlike 12 years ago when the 4780 released. So AMD mindshare is actually much higher than most likely think it is and that's thanks to Ryzen. Now AMD only needs a few things to align and they will be just fine. Plenty of units to sell on release, proper software stack, performance matching or close to competing products, and a proper price on said units. That's it. Thanks to Nvidia's messed up release, things have never been easier for AMD to break through and steal market share. People are ready for some new tech. If Nvidia can't provide it ... well... I'm sure AMD is standing ready to accept orders :)

That's AMD's issue to prove it has the mindshare to drop aggressive pricing and improve profits.

The currently vocal consumers don't even have the information to know if their money matters anymore in the bigger picture.

People are very sensitive to what's the best overall. The hallo effect.

For AMD, RDNA 2 is a new beginning - if they want to construct good attitude towards them, the have to offer the fastest card and offer it today at a reasonable price.

I don't think that many would buy a card faster than the RTX 3090 but retailing for $1600. No way.

AMD needs time to built the relations with customers - this generation good pricing and if everything released with Navi 3X and Navi 4X is still so competitive, only then raise the pricing to increase the profits.

AMD's priority shouldn't be profits but regaining the sales quantities / market share.

Yes looks like it..most of the consumer hardware folks are pivoting aggressively to meet enterprise demand. AMD seems to be in advanced talks with xilinx. Hopefully someone like Bezos or Musk enters this space to keep it spicy

How can something be underwhelming if it matches a 3080?

On 0 evidence apart from three benchmarks of games.

I doubt many have thought about it too much before commenting, but this could go two ways. Firstly, facts are facts Lisa Su clearly said "A 6000 SERIES GPU". Not "Our fastest flagship 6000 series gpu".

When pressed by GN they would not answer the question. Also, Scott Herkelman was asked to validate the same question and this was his response.

https://www.overclock3d.net/news/gp...st_rdna_2_big_navi_gpu_at_their_ryzen_event/1

Pretty much exactly the same thing Lisa replied with. In a comment to PC World, AMD's Scott Herkelman also stressed that AMD never said which Radeon RX 6000 series GPU they were running.

Now this could go two ways.

1. They are sandbagging and trolling Nvidia, trying to get them to pull their next move first (IE more VRAM, possibly more cards)
2. They are just trying to limit damage by showing that "hey, this card ain't the 3090 matcher people are leading you to believe".

However, both of those are still very possible because there is no clarity here *at all*.

One thing I do know is that if they are doing a number one (lol) then it would be a stroke of genius. Get every one a little disappointed, then come along on review day and friggin smash it, getting every one to pay lots of attention.

Now going on the past and being completely brand ignorant? I would not stick my neck out and risk a number 1. I would say it's more likely number twos. But, at least this time they have been a bit more honest about it instead of totally lying and then releasing a bag of crap like Fury and Vega.
