Imola
When was the track built?
Imola – or the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari as it’s been known since 1988 – had its foundation stone laid in March 1950. It was ready for testing by October 1952, while racing began at the circuit in 1953.

When was its first Grand Prix?
Imola first hosted a non-championship F1 race in 1963, but it would take some politicking with Monza in 1980 before the track was awarded the honour of hosting the Italian Grand Prix for the first time that year. From 1981, the two tracks worked together in perfect harmony, with Imola taking on its famous ‘San Marino’ title, and going on to host a total of 27 Grands Prix up until 2006.

What’s the circuit like?
A thrill ride. Pierre Gasly tested his AlphaTauri AT01 at the track in the build-up to the 2020 season, and called the experience one of the best he’d ever had in a Formula 1 car, while his team mate Daniil Kvyat remarked that “an F1 car through corners like Acque Minerali – the entrance is so fast, it’s so cool. It really gives you a lot of adrenaline.” The anti-clockwise circuit is certainly fast, with an old-school feel as the drivers put it on the line in iconic corners like the aforementioned Acque Minerali and Piratella.

if Lewis wins this weekend and Bottas fails to get more than 2 points then the drivers championship is over

correction: forgot about the 1pt for fastest lap :D
if Lewis wins this weekend and gets the fastest lap + Bottas fails to get a point then that would leave Lewis 103 points ahead with 104 remaining,
so no he can't win the WDC this weekend

It's weird to have a race weekend without a Friday practice. Looking forward to another track I've not really seen before.

If Bottas gets too aggressive and takes Hamilton out too many times then he could hand the title to Verstappen.

It's been announced that Gasly is to stay with AlphaTauri this year. Don't blame him for being a bit unhappy about it.

AlphaTauri's Pierre Gasly is "surprised" he wasn't considered for a promotion back to the Red Bull Formula 1 team for 2021 following his Monza win, but insists he's "not disappointed".

It was announced earlier this week Gasly will remain with AlphaTauri for a second consecutive season in 2021 - he also raced with the team for five races in 2017 and all season in 2018 before his promotion to Red Bull for what turned about to be a difficult half season with the team alongside Max Verstappen last year.

After Gasly won the chaotic Italian Grand Prix last month, he said he was ready for a Red Bull return - after he had become just the second driver in AlphaTauri's history, as Toro Rosso and before that Minardi, to have won an F1 race - following Sebastian Vettel's triumph in the 2008 Monza race.

However, Red Bull boss Christian Horner explained recently Gasly was never under consideration for a return to the senior team.

When asked by Autosport if he was disappointed not to have been promoted back to Red Bull for next season, Gasly said: "I'm not disappointed, I will say I'm just surprised.

"In 14 years, Seb won a race with Toro Rosso, I'm the only other driver who won race. Seb got promoted to Red Bull and won four titles with the team.

"So I'm just surprised I was not really considered.

"I've had two podiums with Toro Rosso, I think this season is going alright and on my side the only thing I can do is try and put some strong performances to give to me opportunities in the future.

"It's the only thing I can do. Everything is sorted, I don't really want to think about this any more - I need to perform as much as I can for AlphaTauri - I'm happy to be here and I'm just focused on this weekend and trying to get the best result I can here.

He is running a nice Senna tribute this weekend though.

Also, thanks as always Shimmy.

Of the current crop, only Kimi has raced F1 here (qualified 8th and finished 5th in 2006). Given the short weekend with no Friday running leaving only 90 minutes practice on Saturday... will Kimi's 14 year old experience here count for anything?

I think he's better off being the lead driver at AT. Otherwise he'd be competing with Verstappen when the team and the car are built around Verstappen.

Didn't realise this was this weekend. What's the reason for the shortened weekend? (No friday practice)

Silly question. Why is there no friday practice?

Officially, its because of the short turn around from Portimao last weekend; unofficially its really because they want to try the idea of a 2 day weekend format and see how it goes; it could let them squeeze in extra races in a future calendar.

If I was the tracks I wouldn't be keen on that, you're losing a days ticket money! Silverstone has a job making ends meet as it is.
