It picked up later in the race. If the rest of the race was like the first 6-10 laps I would have given it a 2 :p

That was my feelings. It was going smoothly for a really boring race but it picked up towards the end had a few moments of drama, some purple rain from Lewis and another podium for Danny made me give it a 7/10. Not fantastic but a bit better than most average races.

If the action didn't pick up it would've probably been bellow average so ~4

For those that rated this race so highly (6+) what kind of absolute borefest needs to occur for it to be under 5?!
I enjoyed the race on the whole, but then I've been watching F1 for a long time and knew what to expect with a race at Imola. There was a lot of lyrical waxing before the race about history etc. but since the mid 90s and massive reliance on aerodynamics most races here are a procession.

With regard to this race, the laps Hamilton put in to overcut Bottas and Verstappen were immense. The mid field battles were entertaining. A couple of unexpected crashes. The last few laps after the safety car were great with the pack bunched up and some on old tyres, some on new. Plus a Danny Ric podium :)

Sure laps 10-40 weren't edge of seat stuff, but that's generally how the modern formula is set up to work. The drivers fight off the line then settle in to a rhythm to protect tyres and save fuel and trundle round until the last quarter of the race when they can push again.

It got a 7 from me.

6 from me too.

This track was also going to be a boring race unless something crazy happened.

Much like @GravyMonster said, Hamiltons laps to overcut and the bit of carnage at the end changed it from a 3/4 to a 6 for me.

Heart broken for Russell, also a shame that his chances of getting a Merc seat are so slim as I'd love to see him in a top car :(

I'm starting to have my doubts over Russell now. There's no doubting he has the speed, but he's cracked under pressure when on the cusp of scoring his first point(s) 3 times. I think a midfield team would be good for him to get used to running where the positions really matter.

It's a shame Merc couldn't pull some strings to get him in the RP/Aston Martin for next year, but I guess given the chance to market the team using Vettel wasn't something they were going to give up.

That’s incredibly harsh for someone that’s won championships and won races in lower categories. Not forgetting that he is only 22.

I agree he probably needs time with a better team to have a chance of regularly finishing in the points places, but let’s not make out like the guy can’t handle the pressure.

FIA Formula 2 Championship
GP3 Series
BRDC Formula 4 Championship

Lets also consider he's pushing that Williams to and beyond its limits to get the results he's getting.
The consistency will come with experience. Theres absolutely nothing wrong with making mistakes, even at this level of competition, as long as they take these mistakes and learn from them, its all part of personal growth. If they continually make the same mistake over and over, then you have to start questioning.

Harsh it may well be, and I'm happy to be proven wrong, but from his reactions each time he fluffs it he seems to be inducing a feedback loop of pressure on himself. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a very promising talent but everyone shouting 'he should be in a Mercedes!!11' is jumping the gun massively. If he has issues under pressure of scoring a point, being at the front fighting Hamilton and Verstappen would most likely ruin him and his career - exactly as it has for Albon, and very nearly Kvyat and Gasly.

He's young. Hamilton has had his moments crashing F1 cars despite being in front row machinery all his career. Remember him smashing into stationary cars in the pitlane?

These cars are sensitive to inputs with their electrical deployment and he's not the first driver to catch himself out with it. He's putting in a fantastic showing in my opinion and I hope he gets a better drive one day soon. It's a shame we have too many dinosaurs on the grid in the better cars so drivers like Russell have somewhere to progress to. I feel with all the impending rule changes and uncertainty teams are more risk averse to hiring a driver that might make a few mistakes.

F1 is a hard sell to me at the moment, I wanna watch the young guns duking it out. The excitement isn't there but I will be chuffed when Russell gets that point or two for Williams before the season is out. If nothing else he's proved it's possible in the right conditions and it will be great for the sport.
