120 on M25

Why is it ridiculous?

Because it's outside both the sentencing guidelines and the law?

I'd imagine he will receive a hefty fine and a disqualification.

There is information on gov.uk about the penalties for speeding:

The amount you’re fined depends on what the speed limit was and how much over it you were driving. It’s usually a percentage of your weekly income, up to a maximum of £1,000 (£2,500 if you were driving on a motorway).

You could also be disqualified from driving or have your licence suspended.

For a custodial sentence you'd need to be guilty of more than just speeding in England. Scotland is different however.

Were the gantries set to a lower speed limit? I think you're probably alright if not. I have been flashed quite a few times on the M25 and never heard anything of it. Although admittedly I was doing legal speeds the majority of the time.

Struggling to make sense of this post?

You were flashed doing legal speeds and are surprised you didn't hear anything?

Because it's outside both the sentencing guidelines and the law?

Not to mention beyond sense, reasoning, and fairness. :p

Not if you are on an empty stretch of road you aren't. You are only endangering yourself. Also, Germany waves.

There are always other cars on the road, also Germany can wave all they want, the M25 would never be unrestricted even if we had autobahn style system and drivers in the UK do not expect others to be travelling almost twice the limit.

When was the M25 ever empty, even at night? It may be quieter but I doubt very much that there would be no traffic on it for the considerable length a car would travel at 120mph for even a short time.

Yes there are always other cars on the road. But not always in your immediate viscinity on the motorway in the early hours of the morning... OP already said the closest vehicles were specs in the distance.

There are plenty of situations where I would consider travelling at 120MPH on a British road to be perfectly safe, in a well maintained vehicle on a well maintained and straight road, with no other traffic surrounding you, would be one of those situations.

The law is another matter however.

It has its moments, but generally I agree that speeding on the M25 is a fairly poor idea, even if just because of all the cameras. The M40 however... Everyone drives at 100 on the M40. Its like merging onto the Autobahn. :p

It was just after midnight on the M25, there is always other traffic around. If you were arguing about the M54 or M50 you may have a point... not that it would excuse this behaviour.

You could well be correct, I'm just taking the OP's word for it when he said that there wasn't any surrounding traffic. :)

I think he's just a troll anyway. Classic new poster, light the fuse and run.

Maybe, maybe not. The posts don't bear the hallmarks of trolling, at least to my eye, and he has made several posts in this thread rather than just leaving the opening post and legging it as many do! :D

Was his name changed? Otherwise total troll :D
I bet you dont even have 200 sols. I bet you dont have 200 anything! Troll! :p

If he signed up to ask this question its not beyond reason that he would have picked a semi related username.

Having [only thought about officer] exceeding 100 in a classic car with sentimental value, ouch. :(

Again, no. Calm down! :D

well it looked like the deterrent would work with you, kind of the point ;)

As it is now the law is far too weak on many aspects of driving and people just ignore it.
My views have hardened somewhat more recently, there is far more public awareness of and in effect support of morons with highly tuned cars being driven by idiotic people.
We can debate the speed but to me by far the best deterrent with this people is automatic crushing, they would be far far less likely to let morons drive like this if they could be caught and see their pride and joy crushed.

Nah I'd still speed, if caught I'd park it in a garage and grind the chassis number off. :p

Stick it to the man!
