Does anyone know if you've got an Xbox one game on a USB hard drive, and you transfer it to the internal storage, does it get "automatically optimised" for series X or is a fresh install of the game required?

Eventually you get a game update notification, some games are large patches, others are a complete reinstall.

I moved Halo MCC from my previously unplugged external drive to internal last night, the update only triggered when I started the game. It was a 40gb update, the game was around 100gb before updating.

It crazy there is still so much demand. They are both brilliant consoles with solid 4k gaming, so that helps. Lockdowns have given people more time to play. Plus there are probably people like me who jumped on the hype train.

The demand is there but it is not available. For me I couldn't really care as I haven't played my Xbox in months but the hunt is what drives me :p but you just cannot compete with scalper software.

Don't suppose anyone knows the answer to this Noddy question: when you go looking for call of duty cold war on the Xbox app, you can't clearly see prices or which is the correct version to buy for the xsx......are there two versions for sale, one for Xbox one and one for xsx?

Yes there is two versions, Activision has been themselves and smart delivery isn't used.

Thanks!

Not only that Microsoft have said themselves that stock up till xmas and after will be scarce.
I was extremely lucky to get mine from Game, as much as I didn’t want to give them my money. But the pre order launch that happened a few weeks ago at 8am was a mess. I kept trying till about 10am but no luck then by pure luck/chance I tried Game at around 11am and was put in a 10min que. Finally got through and managed to place a series x order.

And it turned up this morning which I wasn’t expecting till 18th dec but seems like they managed to get some stock and therefore sent mine out.

Haven’t had a chance to set it up as I had to get to work but I unwrapped it and it’s a pretty hefty unit and isn’t as big as I thought it would be. Only thing is my AV cabinet isn’t the biggest but it will fit horizontally but is a tight fit but should be ok as I have plenty of room for air flow.

Anyone had any bad experiences with the game recording DVR on the Xbox ?

Hardly used it since having my SX, but have recorded two short clips in Siege and taken a screenshot, both of which appeared to have worked in exactly the same way as it did on the One X. :)

Hi all, sorry if this has been covered before. Regarding external storage, I got my son a Series S for Xmas. Pricing on the official external SSD seems crazy high. If you use the official segate external USB HDD is this ok as an alternative and can you download gamepass games to this. Would you expect a significant drop off in performance compared to the NVME drive ?

I think its like £60.00 for a 2TB external ?

TIA

Just be aware that new games for the Series consoles won't work on an external drive.

For all Xbox One games and most enhanced Xbox One games it will work fine, and all games on game pass so far except 1 or 2 will run on it.

If I do that, when I launch the game it tells me there are Series enhancements and it asks if I want to update it. If I say yes it effectively deletes the game and redownloads the whole thing again.

Has anybody noticed banding/macro blocking on their series x? Hooked up to my LG B8 OLED and no matter what settings i alter, on scenes such as the splash screen at the start of rogue squadrons or the sky in fifa 21/ watch dogs legion for example exhibit serious macro blocking and colour banding

Turn off auto HDR. It doesn't work properly on a lot of games and even when it does it has a negligible difference and often ruins the look of the game by exaggerating everything, a bit like Samsung mobile phone screens! Halo MCC is broken when using it too.

So the COD thing is definitely a bug then.

Likely, not definitely. In the same way some of the X performance issues looked to be bugged, but it’s a best guess and of little help until the devs get their act together.

The X/S enhancements almost always require a full new install. I’ve not come across instances where they can be patched yet.

Anyone know if all the Halo games now run with the X enhancements? Halo 5?

They have made a complete mess of it, so be very careful which version you get. I did get the game for £5 because of the mess they made with the upgrade though.

I didn't do the full install on my Series X, but FH4 had a patch of about 22-23GB that had to be done before it became playable. Age of Wonders took about a week or so before their patch became live that allowed for the quick resume features. I think it just comes down to the developer and whether they deem that it is worth their time or just plain easier to make the end-user do a fresh install.

I do believe that the X enhancements have been live on Halo: MCC for a few days now :)

Selling well, out of stock everywhere.

No real need for Halo at launch if it's sold out.

Sales slow down in the new year release Halo when it's ready.
