Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

I feel like we're getting better at it. It's only had maybe 6-8L of water through it so everything is still new.

I've got a better set of scales. I've been reading lots of posts on coffeeforums where people are talked through dialing in this machine specifically. It seems that maybe we're over dosing the basket that's leading to an under extraction. The beans are approaching 1 week after roasting now.

I too have recently got a Sage Barista and I’m struggling if I’m honest. I’m using Note d'Espresso Cremoso Coffee Beans and I’m not having much luck getting decent consistency. Anyone have the same combination?

Consistency as in repeatable results is down to a number of things, typically it's the grinder and grounds distribution in the basket. When you get the portafilter out from under the basket give it a little tap on the side to settle the grounds and even out the distribution before you tamp.

Make sure you take the tamper off the magnetic holder and try and give a good, flat even pressure onto the coffee. It should be flat in the basket and smooth over the top and right to the edges.

Are you filling the hopper with beans or just putting a little in at a time? the grinder won't work as well with only a dose worth of beans in it, but equally don't over fill as it'll go stale. Try and just put a days worth in at a time.

Well the mrs only likes it and gets the needle in the expresso range using the dual walled basket and I'm using the single, but it's either too low or too high on the pressure needle.

I've found that ours is getting better and better however the time is around 20s for a 2:1 ratio which suggests I should probably grinder finer and that should slow it down?

practice does improve things massively - took me a while to get used to my new machine but well into my stride with it now.

Time wise your looking for around 25 seconds ideally so grind a touch courser if anything :)

Has anyone had any luck with oat milk? I’m noticing that it’s curdling. I’m using alpro barista oat milk
there's not the right protein in it ? ( if any ), which I thought was what milk foaming/stretching/texturing requires.

The kind with a roasted on date rather than a best before
Aldi seem to have modified there best before coffee dating strategy, asda+aldi always had best before which is 3 months after roasting,
and you could also tell the beans were fresh by the off-gassing,
but, last week spotted I'd picked up some beans labelled before Sep2021 ... so they expanded the shelf life to 10months ?

With a coarser grind wouldn’t I get more coffee in a shorter time?

FAO: Rancilio Silvia owners

Hi

Just bought a silvia and have some questions as a new owner:

1. Noise/Vibrations

The cup warmer seems to vibrate a lot when running, is this normal and are there any ways to decrease it?

I took the lid off mine and put some electrical tape on the edge that the top sits on to reduce noise. I also don't put anything on the top and just head up cups with the water spout or kettle when needed.

I've been a happy rocky and silva owner for many years as a direct result of this thread.
I did the PID upgrade within a year of getting the machine and a couple of years ago bought their bottomless portafilter and recently, upgraded the basket and screen. All upgrades have proved their worth.

Morning All,

So i have some new beans, the Signature Blend 1 from Hasbean is what i have been playing with this morning.

Only my 2nd go at dialing in and well, its taking a little time. I am able to get more coffee into the portafilter vs my previous Lavazza rosso beans.

Edit: Not sure i'm a fan of these beans

Picked up Rave's 'Best Selling Bundle' on Friday and lobbed part of the Signature Blend 250g bag into my Delonghi Bean to Cup. Damn that was an impressive espresso, with a ton of crema. I still struggle to identify some notes so I couldn't pick up Almond.
