Anyone planning to buy the RX 6900 XT, rather than RTX 3080?

Performance will go up if the power limit goes up and cooling permits it

Based on other 6900xt card to date, I'd estimate every 50w to provide 3-4% performance improvement (as long as you don't hit the clock wall artificial amd troll cap) - so the 6900xt AIO is going to be 10% faster after max overclocking than the stock reference 6900XT (unless it hits the clock speed wall)

Wont touch a RTX 3090 is besically what you are stating. To go from 20800 to 21,632 is 4% more performance over the current maximum for the 6900xt. Then in DX12u performance will be poor compared to the RTX 3090 or 3080. A watercooled RXT 3080 (like the Asus rog strix 3080 gaming OC) will net you better overall performance. What tiny performance you lose in DX12 games, you get back in DX12u games.

6800xt overclocks well enough, the money to a 6900xt is not worth it. Hell a RTX 3090 is too much money over the RTX 3080 for the performance.

The main issue with the 6800xt is the lack of a DLSS feature, like super-resolution. RT is not on power with nvidia but is decent. The main issue is the lack of a DLSS feature for RT heavy games.

NVIDIA might ACTUALLY be EVIL... - WAN Show December 11, 2020

They talk about rasterization being more important as a comment from HU. We all know the future is DX12u which is RT and a DLSS like feature.

Like hardware Unboxed stated, The 6900xt is a terrible value product you should never buy.

Note here the 6900xt matches the RTX 3080 at 1440p ultra quality and is slower at 4k. This with Cyberpunk 2077 supporting AMD fidilityFX. Turn graphics fidelity to medium and AMD are on top. Its the fast raster AMD cards the reviews show them to be. When you reduce the settings so faster clock speed matters more and less cores shine. The 6900xt cant run RT with good performance in Cyberpunk 2077 because it lacks a DLSS feature. This will continue untill AMD release super-resolution with the help of MicroSoft.

Both cards make no sense. However frankly I don’t care. For me I’ll be getting a 6900xt water devil or a reference with a water block. I prefer the AMD driver suite. So that’s that.

After trying CP2077 without DLSS running, it's kind of a game changer. I would have gone for the AMD card prior and if there was stock, but having seen the fps uplift DLSS gives, it pretty much rules the AMD cards out for me. I'll get a 3080 when stock becomes a thing again.

Have you tried the AMD CAS Dynamic/Static options?
I found enabling them did increase FPS without significantly harming image quality.
I'm not trying to say it is better than DLSS, but i was pleasantly surprised how well it worked in this game.

No sadly not, I've not owned an AMD card for some time, was set to get a 6800xt but in a way I'm glad they sold out quicker than I could grab one. DLSS surprised the hell out of me, it adds a significant amount of fps.

You can use it even with a Nvidia GPU, i believe it's the option located under DLSS. Give it a try and see what you think, it's not supposed to be a DLSS competitor.

The target audience for the 6800XT don't care about DLSS, you see pretty much everyone considering an AMD card right now is by default not interested in ray tracing (as only Nvidia really offers it with a decent amount of games) so they wont care much about the lack of DLSS either (plus anyone willing to gimp AA to boost the FPS can just turn AA off or use things like FXAA).

Now that is an interesting claim

because if it's true

then why the hell did amd bother putting rayvtracing cores on its die - what a waste of die space, they should have added more shader cores to make rasterisation faster since no one who buys amd wants ray tracing right

Why are we buying really expensive GPU's, to run in a upscaled resolution. I had a dvd player once that upscled to blu-ray but even so it's not the samed has a real resolution blu-ray, When you see linus's vid when he looks into the image the road looks poor with dlss on.

Seems crazy to be spending £1000+ on gpu's to run at lower res so we can upsample it to a higher 1

Ill be interested in RT when it doesn't effect performance so heavily, 30% is a lot to give up for some bells and whistles.
You'll be waiting a very long time. DLSS gives a lot of that performance back however.
With cyberpunk I've read comments that the game is not the same experience without RT. Some R&D spend will have been on implementing too so I feel I'd not get the optimal experience (or £ worth) playing it with RT off :D. Price is too high too IMO. £100+ cheaper would have more of a case but still if you want the best perf in RT enabled games it has to be NV

Both RT and DLSS came in for a lot of flack first gen and perhaps deservedly so but the mk1 of anything is often improved greatly and Nv are bearing the fruits of that now whilst AMD are still faffing about in the greenhouse.

I was interested in a 6800XT but glad I got the 3080 for Cyberpunk alone!

The fastest 6900xt is https://www.3dmark.com/spy/16192667 and it hits Graphics Score 20 875. This is within RTX 3080 overclocking range.
Don't worry about the 6900xt yet, please explain why can't we see any 3080 doing at least 20600 points on water or on air? If it is within the overclocking range, we should see a some of them going over 20600 points but there is none.
How long before Nvidia will release some tricky drivers to beat the Big Navi in 3d mark like they did in the past when they were left behind? :)
Meanwhile the 6800xt...

If you have more money than sense then get a 3090, otherwise get a mainstream card. There's no point in the 6900xt.

Now post your port Royal score :D

From experience? :). Immersion & realism. Not tried it with RT off yet myself but may do later. Metro Ex was another game people were saying once you've played with RT on you won't like it off.

Don't disagree it looks better, personally would prefer the higher framerate.
