Really Starting to Think I Should Spend My Money on Something Else!!!

I'm getting very frustrated now. Since getting an Index I find my 1080ti is underpowered to play some of the VR sims I like playing, so I could do with a 3080.

The one time I actually have the money to buy one I can't actually get hold of one.

Same here, I went out and bought a ( nearly ) 4K monitor and I am stuck with an under-powered graphics card. I put by £1000 for a card but ... now, to not get one is beyond disappointing. Especially so when I read people who have managed to get one but really haven't got the supporting gear to get the best out of it. Even worse the people who bought two!! I mean... teeny bit selfish there!

why would you want 2...you cant run sli on them..stupid

Don't agree with that. I think the vast majority of 3000 owners are focused on 1440p not 4k. 4k gaming is still a niche activity.
It strange this time as PC's have always normally been way ahead of TV's & game consoles in screen resolution for many years
Now there more people with a 4K TV then there are people with a 4K PC monitor

I am not sure why 4K caught on for TV's really.

next gen..as in for the new consoles. the performance issues are related to the old consoles not the new ones and it runs like **** on the old ones. same can be said for watch dog legions..also those requirments listed for pc are not for 4k..there for 1080p...and most people that want 3080s series cards want 4k gaming..the point is 10gb is not going to cut it..what part of that do you not undestand?

If you say so mate. Merry Xmas

In the same boat. I picked up a 5600xt to use with 1440p monitor as a stop gap. Seems to be doing pretty well, have to tweak a setting or two but otherwise 60fps is achievable for a lot of things. Cyberpunk was really my driver to upgrade but seeing as I'll leave that whilst it gets fixed I think I'll stick with what I have for another 6 months and put my money and time into some other projects for now. Got a huge back catalogue of older games to crunch through anyway.

With continuing shortages, perhaps now until March, and with me realising that 10GB isn't future proof at all ( at least for me ) , I am really starting to think that I should just cancel Christmas so to speak and spend my money elsewhere. I mean at this rate I can see the higher memory cards coming out in March and not really being available in numbers until April/May. This entire 3000 launch has just been a joke and I am thinking now best to just forget it for six months. Anyone else thinking the same?

Not for me. Decided to sell my car to afford a scalped 3080. And 10GB GDDR6X is plenty futureproof for the next 4 years. It's going to be a blast to finally be able to play Cyberpunk and all other great games at Ultra settings in the new year...
If you want to play you've got to be willing to pay. :p

What on earth? Netflix is full of 4K content. Please don't tell me your one of those old fashioned folks that still pays for a "TV licence" :D
Until IPTV takes off in the UK then people like my mum, who just want documentaries/edutainment/Nat Geo (etc), have pretty much no choice but to have broadcast TV.

A lot of those channels are not available anywhere else.

NatGeo/Eden/yadda yadda yadda. You won't find them on an IPTV service.

Also, you can count the documentaries on Netflix with half a finger, let alone a full hand :p

Learn to read.

You have to have the premium subscription for 4k on Netflix hence whey I said you have to pay extra for it. And even streaming that, it isn't often true 4k as it's been compressed. You reckon during lockdown when everyone is at home the fibre to the cabinet FTTC infrastructure can stream full 4k?

I've been on 4k on PC since the first monitor true 4k monitor was released, one that wasn't treated as 2 panels to make it 4k.

Iplayer you still need a TV license for. I imagine you get all your current affairs from social meeja and hang on every word on whichever 'influencer' you follow.

Disney+ has all the Nat Geo stuff. There are definitely a lot of documentaries on Netflix, crime, biographical, culture, nature etc.

Nah I just picked up on your crappy tone.

You've confirmed my I was right. Comments like "learn to read" make you seem like a tool.

Talking of buying something else, well, looks like I might opt not to buy any next gen console.

PS5 - the fatal flaw of not supporting 1440p resolution (you're supposed to connect it to a TV).
XSX - the fatal flaw of not supporting headphones for game audio (you're supposed to connect it to a TV).

I guess I'm the problem. I want to connect the console to a 1440p monitor and use headphones.

Well, screw it. The PC as a platform might cost 5x as much as a console (it does!), but at least I can do things my way. Game at any resolution I like and use any headphones I like.

Both Sony and MS only want to let gamers do things their way. Ze vill uze our konsole vith ze TV and ze vill like it!

Congratulations to MS for removing all audio out options except HDMI in their new consoles. And for never supporting USB audio in the first place. Ugh.

I'm confused about the XSX headphones comment
If I'm reading it correctly then I think you are mistaken as I plug my headphones into the pad and I get all audio through the headphones or am I getting the wrong end of the stick?

From what I've read it's really not ideal. (From my experience of doing the same thing with a PS4 it was much less than ideal.)

Firstly a *lot* of people have reported audible noise/hissing when using the controller audio jack. Second, there's supposed to be a lot compression (lossy) when using the controller as your audio source. Meaning the audio is pretty terribad even without the hissing.

The thing is, there's zero technical reason MS couldn't do what Sony do and allow a USB DAC/soundcard as the audio source. Even a cheap USB soundcard plugged into my PS4 sounds miles better than running the audio through the PS4 controller.

Anyway since my next monitor is probably going to be a 21:9 jobbie, I'm starting to think money spent on a console would just be wasted anyhow. Will put that £450 in the PC upgrade kitty instead.

On a separate note, I'm noticing that a lot of my Discord alerts (I check out most alerts even when not interested in the thing), are already sold out in the ~5 seconds between hearing the alert noise and clicking the link.

This tells me two things: either the alerts (eg PartAlert) are delayed somehow, or there are simply a billion bots actually buying the things and no human has a chance, alerts or no alerts.

I put a few days into trying to find a 3000 series or 6000 series to replace my 1070 at a reasonable price - no way does it appear worth it right now.

I'm firmly in of the mind that this cannot be the new normal - so I'm waiting for it to come back!
