*** NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 SERIES STOCK SITUATION - NO COMPETITOR DISCUSSION ***

I'd guess the vast majority of those in the non OC que, would had they have known this bias was coming in advance, would've happily put another £30 down for the OC just to get a card months quicker...

Damn skippy - If you told me 3 & 1/2 MONTHS(!) ago £30 would get the card out quicker, I'd have gladly taken the hit. Now I can only wait until sometime in March (my ETA based on deliveries)...

There was some mention about upgrading TUF non-OC to OC's once the backlog was cleared from the OCs. When that would/might/could be, who knows? :(

Anyway, it's just a GPU and I've had some actual life/death issues to bring it sharply into perspective and it's waaaaaaaay down list of things to worry about now. This forum is just light relief & a pleasant distraction in comparison.

Exactly, I payed less than £700 for a tuf non OC, price to performance that will crap all over the Ti. Those that are willing to pay through the nose for a small jump in performance or those who can simply afford it, fair enough. But to make out like 3080 buyers are making a bad move because a new model is around the corner is just nonsense, there's a range of cards for a reason.
I've even see people mention 40xx series cards which is just absurd.

Yeah the 40xx talk is stupid. imo they key thing to take from the 3080ti is that the 80 card is now much closer to the 80ti than it was in turing or pascal. 1080 to 1080ti had around 25% increase, but this now looks set to be 10% or less. So you could say that the ti makes less sense this generation. About the only justification people can find outside of content creation for the 3090/3080ti is FS2020 on ultra with an index or reverb g2, and even then I'm not convinced that vram amount is the problem. I think the 3090 outperforms the 3080 in this case, mostly because of the higher bandwidth, which ofc the 3080ti won't have.

For those who haven't watched it yet, I recommend Gamers Nexus "2020 disappointment build" for some light relief on the whole no-stock omnishambles. ;)

It is a point of irritation Nvidia went with 10GB for the 3080s - surely new models should be better in every way so unless they're offering RAM compression (remember that!) 12-16GB would have been the sweet spot for launch. Mind you, it would have almost made a 20GB 3080 Ti redundant, so... :(

I think my Asus TUF 3080 OC has two defective Display ports. I have tried two different cables to make sure it wasn’t the cable...here I though I was lucky to be upgraded from the non-oc model.

You did update to latest drivers prior to fitting if you had Nvidia previously??. I fit my 3080 got nod displays, refit my 1080, downloaded and installed latest drivers for 3000 series, confirmed working put 3080 back in displays showed fine.

3000 series will not display without 3000 series valid drivers at least if already running older Nvidia in any case.

The problem is for people like myself who want to game 4K with ultra settings and VR the 10gb vram in 3080 simply isn’t enough. 12gb would be fine but 10 simply isn’t cutting it already. I begrudge spending a £1000 on my 2080ti replacement but I just don’t seen another option at this moment in time. Sadly AMD didn’t do enough to sway me.
Then the RTX3090 would probably be the best move? I mean yeah wait for the 3080Ti and see how the launch goes but it’ll be very similar to the 3080 launch. Given the rumoured price of the 3080Ti you might as well get the 3090 and have be without the hassle. Sell the 2080Ti they’re still worth a lot of money second hand you’ll be fine.

This is a fairly old argument, but imo it is settled. More bandwidth is preferable to more vram. These aren't my words, but this little quote explains it quickly and simply.

"Usable memory amount is very much tied to available memory bandwidth. More bandwidth allows the games to access more memory. So it's kind of counterintuitive to swap faster smaller memory to a slower larger one. More available memory means that I want to access more memory, but in reality the slower bandwidth allows me to access less. So the percentage of accessible memory drops radically."

Originally I thought this too but so far RDR2, Cuberpunk and MSFS2020 have all hit the 10gb limit on even 3080s with “computer says no can do” messages before you even leave the graphics options. These only happen in 4K but anything that uses 4K texture packs massively eats up the remaining ram. That 1gb extra in my 2080ti makes all the difference despite being a significantly slower card. I believe this issue is only going to get worse in next 2 years. I could still be tempted by a 3080 but I’d always have a nagging in the back of my head if I started to have to turn settings down on it within the first year. Maybe some video game studios could start better optimising the VRAM to take account of the DDRS6x

My point too - I wasn't suggesting 12-16GB of slower VRAM - good lord no! Same bandwidth, more VRAM please!
