Big Tech Authoritarianism

That's funny because I haven't seen any calls for MAGA to be killed. Held to account in court yeah.

99.9% weren't outside and they certainly weren't trying to stop those that entered and fought with the police, killing one and injuring others. Or was that antifa

If the Ayatollah of Iran has indeed used his account to say such things it should be suspended. You'll get no argument from me on that. Any world leader who uses their social media accounts for such hatred should have them removed. He can go on his State run TV to spout such hate.

Trump had 74,223,744 votes, I would pay to see that many people fit into congress. Also it looks like you're implying I believe antifa was behind the storming?
Antifa does the exact same as the MAGA supporters did, CHAZ (or CHOP) comes to mind, take over a neigbourhood, occupy it and have armed patrols wondering the streets leading to deaths.
People supported that and the locals who had to suffer under occupation clearly didn't have a say in the outcome.

That is because they were mostly peaceful. Hundreds of protests but sadly a small percentage turned violent. Those responsible should have their day in court and if guilty spend a very long time making number plates or whatever they have prisoners doing now.

Then by that definition the protests in Washington were mostly peaceful, because it was only a small percentage in the Capitol Hill building. And pulling down Parler and deplatforming Trump is a massive overreaction.

Donald Trump, the still President of the United States of America has been censored by Twitter, a corporation elected by nobody and along with corporate media who clearly hate him that now means he cannot talk directly to the American people who elected him.

A group of people cry that he is a fascist, but he was Democratically elected, didn't start any wars, abolish future elections and/or make himself dictator for life. He defended the US constitution from those who seeked to take away peoples right to bear arms, not something a tyrant does.

Those decrying him as a fascist are cheering on the censorship and algorithms that social media employs to boost the outreach of some users (corporate media etc) whilst suppressing, censoring or banning other ideas. Big tech censorship and banning is not a new thing, they've just never been so emboldened as to do it to a sitting US President before.

Now for all those cheering it on and who think it is fighting fascism or whatever, I would like to share a few quotes from a school grade text book on the Nazi's:

Are we not being lead in that direction by those claiming to be fighting Fascism? who tore down historical statues? who bans books/users and all manner of things that don't agree with their point of view (deemed to be 'offensive')? who is trying to disarm the population?

Why do people who believe to be fighting authoritarianism/fascism or whatever cheer on billionaire corporation owners who in unison now act like them?

Well the government has put clauses to prevent tenants talking to the press for the Grenfell style cladding..

Freedom of speech will be 2021’s casualty.

Naturally the republicans will see this as grounds for a commie witch hunt. It seems that conservatism is simply a synonym for “if you don’t understand or want it - use violence and oppression”.

We're basically now living in China, except the CCP aren't moderating what views we're allowed to see online, big American tech companies are. Today Donald Trump is banned because a tweet saying “To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th.” is considered to be inciting violence (???), tomorrow who knows what will be banned, maybe you'll also agree with that ban, maybe you won't, but your views don't matter. You can't simply go to a different website because Google controls the internet, Apple and Google will ban the app, they have a monopoly on the internet, and the left are too dumb to care because their "side" is currently happy with the outcome.

I think the ultimate outcome of this is a civil uprising because people in the West do not tolerate tyranny.

Amazon, Google and Apple have always used their market strength to prohibit competition. This is why the EU has been going after them - a threat to the EU economy competition is covered under anti-competition law.

I suspect that laws will result, governing tech in the same way as banks.

Antifa have stormed Congress and tried to stop the constitutional duty of that body counting legitimate Electoral Votes for the POTUS/VPOTOS and having their candidate installed instead? Damn I missed that one.

Yes they have actually, on the 6th. Many know antifa members caught on video actually were the ones breaking into the building and initiating the heard to storm in. Agitators.

These companies are a danger to society and need regulating as soon as possible, I'm glad we seem to have a Conservative government that agrees with this view.

I've worked in Financial IT for banks most of my career. The amount of audit which has crept into the industry is huge, although understandable considering the impact on peoples lives of a banking failure. A lot of my day is spent arranging for audit evidence to be provided to the external auditor. With more recent high profile IT outages and hacking I've thought for a while that eventually you'll need an audit or license of some kind to run a website or other IT company.

Based on your idiotic comparison to China, I expect the regulation will not go far enough for you.

The more risk a tech company has of falling foul of the government or other industry regulation, the more pressure the government is able to place on that tech company to enact its will - good or bad.

And in comes jsmoke with the "it was antifa" take hot off the fringe sites. If asked what you got I expect you'll give nothing but the best sources of information.

fake news, take it to Parler.......oh wait

How is it idiotic? In China speech online is regulated by the CCP, here it is regulated by a small group of big American tech companies. Please refute this point

Do you want links to the videos, they can put names to antifa faces present that day, many of them, they were there agitating the crowd literally the ones smashing the windows and breaking down the doors and a certain gullible group of R's joined in.

You are free to go to whatever website allows you to voice your opinion. Just like you are doing now on OCUK. There is not a central governing body dictating what you can or cannot say across all mediums, as much as you seem to believe.

I expect you will get some criticism for views like this. But I agree with them. It's incredible, but unfortunately predictable, that the freedom of the internet has been lost. In fact I wouldn't say lost, but taken. I was born in 1969. I've seen the world before modern computers and technology. I was born closer to WW2 than I was to today. I look back on my younger years with a real sense of freedom. That sense of freedom has gone now. Say something unpopular online and you are silenced. Unfortunately a lot of people are happy this is done if you have unsavoury views, but neglect to understand that their more savoury views may be silenced next. Like many on here were, I was one of the archetypal geeks in the early 1980's. I went all-in on technology. But as I've got older I've realised how it can be subverted and used for an agenda. I am genuinely worried for my childrens future freedoms. They don't know any different, having been born into this technology.

Is there not an obvious solution to big tech, particularly social media, maybe I'm out of touch with networking capabilities but the one sure method that used to work was to DDOS them, now take millions of angry republicans DDOS'ing Facebook 24/7 from their phone or PC it would cripple them.

You were fed a narrative by the few channels available to you. Get a grip. Freedom of press and information has never been more free than it is today. Your "silenced" opinions are probably those that are outdated, such as how your generation stood by and did nothing for women and people of colour.
