£2.69999K for a 3090? WTF

no however from memory 1000 series was more less similar prices and you are talking 40% profit over all prior years from memory. considering 2000 series was also more expensive, it doesn't really take much to take that meaning 3000 series has vastly outsold previous 2 gens. i think many people are underestimating sales at this point.

1000 series were a lot cheaper at launch see link below.

https://play3r.net/news/nvidia-gtx-1080ti-launch-prices-start-from-689-99-at-overclockers-uk/

The reason NVidia are making more profit is because of the bigger margins they are getting per card.

No such thing as a 3080 blower card yet that's probably why they use them. I have no idea about mining so not getting into the mining topics.

I clicked the video hoping they were going to do something cool with 10 x 3090s but mining grrr... least cool thing ever to use that much power.
I guess they just buy anything they can get, shame most big miners I know "cheat" to get their cards using bots etc. making it unfair competition with regular gamers trying to get a card to game on. But then again not a single retailer has done anything to stop the bots so I don't think anyone really cares.

Then again from what I remember from the 10 series launch if you didn't buy an 1080 Ti in the first 2 months you were looking at £1100+ due to shortage as well. MSRP means nothing these days.

Don't think so as NVidia were selling the Titan for not much more than that.

There was always a steady supply of Pascal Titans before the 1080 Ti launch and then a steady supply of Titan Xp cards after the 1080 Ti launch.

Neither of the above Titans were sold for more than £1200 in the UK and NVidia regularly restocked them.

I remember buying my Aorus 1080ti extreme a while after launch (around March 2018) and on OCUK and other major online sellers it was around £1200!
I couldn't find it anywhere cheaper until it came up on a 'catalogue' site which came in at £899 which was 'very' cheap at the time.

or 10 in each rig...... this is where the 3090s are also ending up as well as huge farms.

we are talking 40% extra profit, that's not just down to increased prices. thats increased volume moved too - scalping doesnt directly increase profit for nvidia. have you also forgotten that covid turned everyone into a gamer and now miner. 10 series was cheaper at launch only, then it drastically went up as others have mentioned, 10series released during the first mining shortage issue... why is it impossible to you that 3000 series is outselling 1000 and 2000?

Wondering what people would pay for a 3090 at the moment. What’s the max you would pay?

I won't pay a penny more than they are supposed to cost and if prices keep on going up I will just wait it out. Honestly I think people are completely nuts not putting some sort of upper limit on their spending. No way these cards are worth £3000.

10 series sold direct by NVidia remained at its launch prices and stock was regularly replaced.

Just been looking at NVidia's financial figures for the last few years. Their margins have increased over the last few years and are at record highs, this means they are making more profit for each card sold and also bearing in that a 3090 direct from NVidia is more than twice the price of a 1080 Ti they are doing it on more expensive cards sold.

Or putting it another way NVidia are making more money on less cards sold.

Edit

This link below says it all

NVidia increased market share in Q4 2020 despite selling 7.3% less cards.

you are looking at the two top end cards. most sold cards are 60/70, also your own links states
"When looking at the overall market, the worldwide GPU shipments increased to 20.5% which marks a 12.4% growth over the previous year. The research firm has forecasted that the installed/shipped GPU base will increase to 419 million units during 2020-2025. The PC market, in general, is showing signs of recovery after the pandemic disrupted global operations. Overall GPU shipments increased by 20.5% from the previous quarter."......all sighs point to 3000 outselling all previous generations.
Again not sure why you think 1000 is still the highest selling series... we now have more gamers and miners than ever before!! regardless if it looks like they cant keep up, they can. the scare mongering is a way to drive demand slightly too.

edit:scalpers have sold more than 50k units of 3000 series on ebay alone, that should tell you everything you need to know...

When they are talking about GPU shipments that includes integrated graphics on CPUs.

If you read my link it shows NVidia's discrete Graphics cards shrink by 7.3% in the last quarter.

This. This, this, this. People need to wake up.

They are just warming us all up to £3k cards soon.

With the sale of the RTX 3000 series and AMDs 6000 series selling faster than any one of these companies guessed (at the scalping rates) the next range will now start at :-

4090 £2k-2.5k
4080 £1250
4070 £850

7900XT £1.5k-£1,750
7800XT £1k-£1099.99
7800 £800

and people said a few years back that there will never be a £1k gaming card . They are slowly preparing us now for £2k+ cards to be the norm.

If true, then this will be my last gaming build and for future modern gaming I will move to consoles. I was also thinking of moving my computer work usage to Mac in the future anyway.

Sadly that's the prices right now for this generation and more in some cases. So don't see next gen being cheaper (or will be the fake MSRP again that no AIB can really sell at again).

It was the idiots back in the original Titan launch which bought the first £1k gaming card. If they hadn't bothered then Nvidia would have canned that idea. But no, they had to swing their epeen in the "look what I bought" stakes and here we now are...

Does anyone else think AMD & NVidia are deliberately holding back supply of entry/mid range cards in favour of the higher end more profitable GPUs and CPUs?

I just think its disgusting to be in this position in the first place. Why go to all the trouble to do such a public launch and talk up such graphics improvements available with the new gen cards, and then have next to none available to purchase. So much so that it inflates the prices to double what they were originally pitched at in the launch.... Makes me soooo angry!!!
