Is a VAT refund not enough to cover the cost of import fees?
If you've ever had to pay "import fees" it's basically VAT plus a handling fee imposed by the courier. There shouldn't be any duty on computer hardware unless the local government are being cash grabbing t**ts. Either way, we're not in control of any of that, we're not responsible and if the customer chooses not to pay then the goods will eventually be returned to us and the order cancelled. So anyone not wanting to take that risk REALLY should get their order cancelled immediately - https://forms.gle/KewUKDD7fQMu1div5 - and then try to find somebody in their own country who can supply them with what they want.

The Irish are in a sh*tty situation but OcUK isn't to blame for it.

VAT is being refunded. If you don't want to pay import handling fees please give me your order number and I'll refund your order in full.

You seem to be under the impression that we have a choice in this. We don't. We can't ship your order with VAT paid. The only person with a choice here is you. Continue with the order or don't. There's not going to be any miraculous U Turn on Brexit. We're not responsible for your government's decisions as much as we are responsible for ours.

Of course you have a choice. You could face up to the problems you created for yourselves in September and commit to getting the product to the customer if possible and with no additional charges. You could choose to keep your customers informed clearly and concisely. You could reply to questions your customers have directly asked instead of complaining about questions or statements that were never posted, as you have here, for a start.

I've saved you the trouble and submitted the form myself.

We don't have a choice...
It's not possible...I've made that very clear.

I've answered hundreds of questions here. In fact, since I rarely post "promotional" content and don't post about my personal life, you'll probably find that the vast majority of my 2400+ posts are responding to customer queries.

Thanks, we'll get that processed. I hope you get over your issues soon because you're going to find that import fees are going to become a common part of life if you ever order from companies based in the UK.

But "Cash grabbing ****" is our governments middle name. Well the polite version.
I didn't vote for them!

I didn't vote for ours either...or Brexit for that matter. In fact, there's a clear majority of unhappy remainers in our company. Yet I feel like we're being blamed for the resulting political decisions.

Given the exchange rate differences between then and now, you would not have actually paid any more net than before having had the VAT refunded at today's exchange rates...

You seem to be trying to create an issue where this is the best possible solution to prevent you having to pay the VAT twice and have the then claim the VAT back YOURSELF!

If you have actually cancelled your order, maybe consider deleting your forum account too? All you have done is whine and moan about the issue which has NOT been caused by OCUK. (I am specifically referencing the VAT/Brexit issue here btw)

His loss, someone else’s gain :D think if I was in his position I’d be happy to have received a VAT refund and soon to be receiving my card. You can’t please them all ScottiB, but we appreciate your posts and updates.

Wonder what card he was getting and whether it has made me go up a position? :p

What card were you waiting for?

Seriously?

Of course. The payment was made in September, more than three months before Brexit. Since the DPD issue has not been resolved (two and a half months later) it's not clear what might have happened if orders were processed without refund and delivered as planned, but we know at least one customer was charged import fees when they switched delivery to DHL (see below). By refunding the VAT, OC have ensured Irish customers will have to pay that extra charge and without notification, much less consultation. I only asked here because I received a mail from Amazon Pay. If I hadn't been paying attention to the forums for the last few months I would have been completely confused as to why I received a partial refund. Last mail I received from OC in relation to anything was on 08/01/2021.

There might be a "handling fee" IIRC DHL charge something like £11 or 2.5% of the total value whichever is higher on top of any VAT due.

Looks to be at leat 5%, if my quick calculation was anywhere near accurate.

So I got the message from DHL there. €181 in VAT and Customs charges. Seeing as I had £133 refunded which works out around €140, the customs charges don't seem bad at all.

We don't have a choice...

You've replied a lot. Your success rate in actually answering direct questions isn't quite so great, but as I've said before it's not your fault personally that OC don't have adequate customer service for the business you want to turnover.

No issues at all elsewhere. All fees were communicated up front and clearly by other retailers I've used since the start of the year. I've even received some refunds where there had been slight overestimations.

Yes it's cancelled, I did it myself just to be sure.

I didn't vote for them!
Luckily it doesn't matter which way people vote, we end up with the same results no matter who gets in.

I appreciate the issues for everyone at OCUK, I'm happy with the service. I'm sure it's even more frustrating for ye guys, it's just an inconvenience for most of us at the end of the day. We get to walk away from the situation when it gets too much, ye don't. Thanks.
