The last game you completed, and rating.

Cleared Blacksad: Under the Skin from my Steam backlog at the weekend. The graphics and music are great, the story is almost as good as the graphic novels that it is inspired by, but it falls down badly on the technical front. There's a lot of unnecessary QTEs, some nasty bugs that force reloading, some of the collectibles are nearly impossible to locate while others are missing entirely, and you can't skip out of the (very long) end credits.

Alien Isolation in VR using the MOTHER Mod -10/10

The most intense, most atmospheric, the scariest, gaming (hell, any) experience of my life. It's bad enough in pancake mode but in VR, the alien feels huge and deadly and you actually feel like you're in Sevastapool Station as it's gradually falling apart around you. The ambient sound effects as you hear the alien thumping around above you, or the alarms and sirens going off, along with the score that's scary and intense in its own right and echoes that of the 1st movie - all give you the willies and sweaty palms. What an experience and now that I've finished it, really struggling to get motivated to play any other game atm.

I think it might be my favourite game of all time, certainly up there with Lords of Midnight, Everquest, Bioshock 1 for me.
 
Assassin's Creed Valhalla - 8/10

I really enjoyed this game despite the random crashes. Spent 160 hrs and still didn't 100% the game. I never got bored, never got tired of the missions, and I really enjoyed the storyline. Equipping dual spears turns the baddies into shish ka bobs. I spent $40 on this game which equates to spending 25 cents per hour. Well worth the money.

I played it with the DOOM CE mod pack and enjoyed it quite a lot more than I originally did without the addition of mods.

Overall, a solid addition to the DOOM catalogue, however, I'm not a lover of maps which make the ammo a little on the lean side.

Some of the design was quite clever and well thought out, though.

Not sure if counts as a full PC game as it's a DLC story mode, but you can't really complete this full game either, so it's a rating of this mode and the partly the game itself.

I completed the Champion Road Beyond story DLC on Fire Pro Wrestling World on Steam. Notable as it's actually a Suda 51 production with him coming back to complete a story mode that he started as his very first job in the industry on a prior Fire Pro 27 years ago. Complete with a modern video interview of his, quite interesting from an historical perspective.

I'd been a fan of his games since Killer 7 but didn't know that's how he'd started, Fire Pro is also a great MMA game as well as wresting. The MMA is legit good enough to consider it as a real sports game as well, with UFC style octagon, K1 modes, etc.

The story mode is actually quite normal by Suda 51 standards with most focus on MMA modes with clear parodies recognisable to MMA fans, quite short overall, not that interesting but still decent, maybe 6 or 7/10 for DLC but it's closer to 9/10 for the full game.

I take my hat off to your sir! I actually parked my first attempt at Alien Isolation (pancake mode as you say, I don't have VR) for 6 months as it was just so intense. Going back to it and completing the game felt like one of my biggest gaming achievements as it truly is terrifying to get through. I can only imagine what it would be like in VR, I'm not sure I could do it! I'm the biggest fan of horror movies and nothing really fazes me to watch in a movie; it's crazy how different an experience it is when it comes to a horror game though. The contrast in the level of fear almost defies logic!

Yeah, it's hard to explain to people unless they experience for themselves. My wife laughs at me but I know she would not last 10 minutes in the game. VR amplifies the fear and takes it to the next level. I tried to finish this game in VR a few years ago and got as far as the San Cristobel Medical Facility and had to quit. I was hiding for minutes in lockers and it was more of an ordeal than anything else. Glad I finished it this time round though as it's truly an outstanding experience.
 
It was bad enough in normal mode but VR I wouldn't even attempt. It was free on Epic games a while back and I thought I'd replay it but no chance at the moment - I don't want to go through that again! The best Alien(s) game there is though - everyone should play it at least once (and then hide!)

Just picked up a Reverb G2 so going to have to try this, if I've got the bottle.

Mentioning Bioshock, have you tried the Half Life Alyx Bioshock mod? I've not yet but watched a vid and it looked amazing....

jesus you guys are doing a great job of making me want to suffer this game. what is wrong with me!

i assume you play on pc with oculus?
 
Wasteland 3

It was ok, very clunky and awkward. Coming to this straight off the back of Divinity: Original Sin 2 didn't help though, that game is so polished.

I very nearly gave up but decided to knuckle down and get it finished.

I recall (perhaps incorrectly) that this game was pilloried on release and seen as a step down for the franchise. Something about the batmobile sections in particular being poorly implemented? I've had it in my library for a while after it came up as free on Epic but never bothered with it for that reason.

Am I misremembering this? Or were there issues that have been patched out?

It sounds like you heavily rate it now anyway. How does it stand up to the other games in the series? As good as City or Asylum?

The game ran like garbage on release, it had all sorts of issues that are now patched. I really enjoyed the Batmobile implementation on that play through but I can recall it being an FPS pounder previously.

I also think the visuals hold up really well for it's age.
 
Half Life Alyx on my Oculus Quest 2 linked (on max settings on an 3700X / 6800XT).

It's a very good game and paves the way for how VR and touch controls should be integrated into VR games. Shooting, reloading, walking etc all feel natural. The ability to accurately model water floating around in bottles is finally here! How many years of games have we watched water either not move at all or unrealistically "flow" when a character picks up a glass?

As an actual game, it's not quite as good as the hype makes out in my opinion. It's basically Sewer / Corridor Level: The Game and lacks environmental and colour variety; everything is brown, grey or black. It definitely has effective level and puzzle design but I wish a little more time was spent outside enjoying the vistas. The weapons are limited (by design to one hand) and the mods you can do to your weapons don't change the game that much.

It creates an immersive atmosphere with the the dark environments and the dialogue between Russell / Russ evolves over time, as does Alyx's confidence.

I just wish there was "more game", spatially.

8 or 9 out of 10 for the rating.
 
What VR kit are you using- I am trying to decide what to buy for myself, just to play this very game lol?

In my sig, a Quest 2 with a link cable to my PC. My PC is too far from my network router to make wireless work. I mean it does work but due to lower bandwidth, the compromise in graphics quality wasn't worth it to me.
