3080ti 3070ti confirmed for April

I think Nvidia was only planning to do a short run of the 3090 or maintain very low supply to make it ultra premium - then stock up in ga102 dies for the 3080ti launch a few months later. However what crashed their plans is that the 3090 is selling so damn well the 3080ti idea went straight to the toilet, no need when people are happy to pay $500 extra and Nvidia can't save anywhere close to $500 by the 3080ti just being a 3090 with less vram - the whole 3080ti relied on 3090 cards not selling too many units, only going to professionals but then gamers jumped on it like a crack addict and Nvidia said **** the 3080ti we don't need it

Yeah I was in this boat, I figured I can't be arsed to fight for a 3080 and will just pay for the 3090 as "I can get one" instead of "maybe I can get one"

Same mate, albeit shock endorsement by the wife as she found it in stock and sanctioned the purchase (double result). It has since paid for half of itself now mining on it when I am not gaming. This has brought its outlay down to under a regular 3080 so not complaining about the overinflated price for me anymore! :)

Hah wish I jumped on that boat earlier as I now have it mining while I work and then game in the off time.

I did replace the thermal pads as the stock ones were garbage :p - but it took me a few attempts to find the correct thickness :)

Seems that the vram temp is a combination of temp on the front and back (which I didnt think of at the time) and had to redo the GPU side to get proper contact (vram at stock is max 80c) and max 90-92c when vram is 1300+ ( used to be 104-106c)

GPU doesnt go over 65 anymore. :D

Yes mate, I got a large pack of Odyssey 1.5mm from china and got them replaced last week after arrival. For £15 it was a no brainer to get cool memory when either gaming/mining. In an enclosed case with reasonable airflow if the ambient room warms in the day the most the memory hits now is 90c.

haha I feel stupid, I pay over £100 now on pads as I couldn't find any conclusive info on what thickness was needed.

I ended up with 1.5 mm on the GPU memory side and then 2mm on everything else.

Someone on the nvidia website swore that it was 1mm on the GPU memory side - but when I did it (zero contact) and fan ramps up almost immediately

live and learn I guess.

Oh lol. I was keeping in touch with the mining hardcore as they worked out the items a while back, I was originally going to do just the backplate (its easiest) then read people were still having throttle so consensus was to go all in and do front/back and even repaste core - I did order some Thermal Grizzly for that which was another fiver I forgot!

I repasted also, used some noctua NH2, tbh i repaste everything :D, only thing I haven't done is my X570 chipset as the board was replaced and its been fine (I just know that they use a crappy rubber thing to transfer heat :P)

When I tear everything down for a clean in a month or so Ill probably do that too.

Cant grumble, make hay while the sun shines as they say! Not going to pass up the profits as I have been through many a crash (been mining since 2012). Going to tidy up my server tower this week as it has been neglected. It has my 1060 in it, might have to get a better case for it the poor thing.

Another card you won't be able to buy!?

I like the following:

'By offering gamers a 20% memory bandwidth upgrade and 17.6% more CUDA cores and 2GB of additional GDDR6 memory, Nvidia will have what they need to compete with AMD's RX 6900 XT in the $999 section of the graphics card market.'

These cards if there are any, will be £1000 of anybodies money...then there's the retailers mark up, so maybe £1200 ish or more??? And they may just get more and more expensive??

Those wanting a 3080 will now want 3080ti, so it will be the same as the release of the 3080, ten's of thousands of people will want one, there will be about 4 for the whole of the UK?
Taking into consideration the amount of people still waiting for the 3080 (September 2020), does that mean, this will be the same for the 3080ti??

More memory bandwidth? - thats going to be bought up by miners lol

Well when 3080s are selling for £1200-£1500 at well known retailers and selling out in seconds, I don't see the 3080ti costing less than £1500-£2000, while a 3090 right now on a well known retailers site is selling for £2400 and is almost all gone in a matter of seconds it was in peoples baskets and you can't add it now.

So anyone expecting a 3080Ti at £1000-£1200 is dreaming really and I have a funny feeling there will be no FE models of this and then stops people saying well Nvidia sell it for £999.99 etc etc.. and if there is a FE model we all know what that means zero cards or drip fed 5 at a time on each drop or every other drop.

Anyways we will see..

Yeah I don't expect nvidia to release an FE version of this either, it will be AIB only which means they won't be available anywhere near RRP if at all.

If that is the case like mentioned its gonna be an expensive card, not sure why anyone would want one if they have a 3080 already (saying this only because the last time a thread was made about it the poster was referring to the 3080 being a stop gap till they could get the Ti and said the 3090 was a rip off).

Wouldn't be surprised if the 3080ti FE, is just a 3090 with the backplate replaced with the 3080ti words and a different bios to limit and disable half the memory, it due to not making the cut :D
