I think Nvidia was only planning to do a short run of the 3090 or maintain very low supply to make it ultra premium - then stock up in ga102 dies for the 3080ti launch a few months later. However what crashed their plans is that the 3090 is selling so damn well the 3080ti idea went straight to the toilet, no need when people are happy to pay $500 extra and Nvidia can't save anywhere close to $500 by the 3080ti just being a 3090 with less vram - the whole 3080ti relied on 3090 cards not selling too many units, only going to professionals but then gamers jumped on it like a crack addict and Nvidia said **** the 3080ti we don't need it
