Second hand price insanity!

This makes the absolute mad dash for 30 series cards quite inexplicable.

Not really if you have been on this forum long enough you will realise it happens every GPU release and has done for years and years regardless of whether there is a game or not that needs the card update. Everyone wants the new shiny, precious.

The demand for the 9xx series was probably the last time there was such clamouring and furore. Not as bad as now but there were quite a few 980's/980ti's that took months to appear. The infamous EVGA releases of the 9xx series were notorious for this anyone who remembers it.

The 1xxx series not quite as bad as it delivered at a "good" price but then the 2xxx series was a bit of a damp squid with the price over performance and the insane 2080ti price until the Supers hit.

The 3xxx series was hotly anticipated for the most recent gain in performance and featuresover price ratio and the hype train was on overload.

Its not just for ray tracing etc plenty of people on here chase FPS expecially minimums at higher resolutions.

As a coincidence I've been reading about lot of disgruntled Xbox owners on reddit complaining about the price of games, the exclusivity of games, the lack of game releases, problems with certain games being fixed, not able to actually play games because its offline etc etc so its not all rosey on the other side.

Thats interesting I've not experienced anything like that, in fact for me its finding the time to play them all there is so many and there are easy ways to get GamePass very cheap but even at full price its a bargain for me. Not sure what they mean by Exclusivity either, the only thing missing is PS5 exclusives, if thats an issue they could just get a PS5 too if they have enough time to play that many games which I personally dont have that kind of time. You could have both consoles and some change for the price of most high end GPUs.

I've also never had an issue with not being able to play a game or because its offline, not sure where thats come from. For me I wish I did it sooner but it suits me better especially with young kids, no more messing about with frame rates and settings, monitoring temps etc I just enjoy the games and games I never would have bothered with previously, its actually rekindled my love for gaming just for how simple and easy it is. Not to mention the performance for the money is fantastic.

I was a PC gamer for 27 years so it was a tough decision for me but absolutely no regrets given the current and never ending situation with PC components

Yes I think it's a common misconception that new AAA games are what drives GPU sales, when actually it's a desire for better performance in existing games as much as anything, plus the impact of more demanding monitors (higher resolution and/or refresh rate). Years ago things were a bit different, you had 'killer apps' like the early Quake games driving the 3d accelerator market, but it's really just a never-ending cycle of the desire for more performance now. 3080 is a great example of a card that people want because it offers a material benefit over their 1000 series or whatever.

I lost £79 on my 2070 Super mainly because I wanted a quick sale and didn’t want to chance eBay and potential scams. Not bad for a two year old card. Made my 3080 around the same price.

VR is the reason I got a new GPU, which is of course higher resoluton and faster refresh rate. If it were 2D gaming then at 1440p my 1080ti was still competitive and I'd have no reason to upgrade. RT isn't a killer feature for me.
