What watch do you wear?

Can't help but think specific bits of this video (users posting better pictures than the watch brands) are a direct call out on you @mrk ... :p

(the video isn't a great watch it is roughly an advertisement for Chrono24 but there you go).

I don't understand the angle of where he is coming from. Getting sucked in to hype because of photographs and content that owners have made, then the watch somehow doesn't live up to these expectations... and this made him sell his Rolex? This is just weird and sounds like an issue he has rather than an actual thing. If this is your mentality, it'll happen to all kinds of products, as it's not just watches that have this treatment.

I do agree that some of the big brands marketing departments are appalling. Recently, Tudor with the silver BB58; awful, awful stock photos. I have no idea why they do it. Sure, consumers will step in and take better photographs, but it just comes across as lazy and like they don't care and t

So I've actually never liked any men's watches.

I have small wrists and actually really like ladies watches.

I've been thinking of getting and wearing a ladies watch for many years, but I wouldn't be able to tell if it fits well and wouldn't want to ever try going to a store to try them on.

Strictly speaking there isn't any such thing as a man nor womens watch. It is just how they are marketed. There are some incredibly "girly" mans watches and vice versa. In fact, it was in vogue not too long ago for women to wear larger "mans" watches. Wear whatever makes you happy. The only catch may be if you have a monster wrist width and need to get a new strap.

That specific one looks to be ex-display ('new without tags'). No reason why it wouldn't be genuine. As above, Pulsar are a budget brand that sell volume so no reason why it wouldn't go for so little.

That is distinctly a woman's watch though. :p

Heh I actually don't really rate the 3 main brands he's mentioned there any more. A passing interest now I guess. He does have an issue though, he bought that Submariner purely off the fact that it was popular and photos in communities of it looked great too whereas I am the direct opposite. I will not ever buy a watch that's simply popular on social media. If it doesn't resonate with my current state of taste then it won't even get a second glimpse. But when something does catch my eye and it resonates, I'll do all my research and then likely go for it. It has to have a few things that matter though like a story behind it now, so effectively a vintage watch or a brand with historical significance/heritage for that particular watch - Hence the pilot watches I now have.

I also rate a whole bunch of microbrands higher than any big name brand. This is just the way it is, big brands are lazy now, this is a fact, whilst micros are pulling all the punches out the bag it seems.

I also use my watches to practice my photography, as it is my profession after all!

I agree with you both. It is a disappointing state of affairs if you are that influenced by others/social media. I guess the word "influencer" does carry some weight though. It goes someway to explain the nuts Rolex bubble at the moment. The micro-brands are punching - I just don't have the shelf space for more than what I already have. Although I think my next trinity will be a BB58 Silver, something Bronze, and (I'm sorry) but a gold fluted day date :p

I prefer this bracelet type watch, but the rrp on this one is meant to be £135.

At that price is it real or fake?

I have tiny ehlers danlos wrists with broken compacted nerves, and my thumb and pinkie finger wrap around them easily.
Pulsar, along with lorus, are basically the 'budget' brands from the seiko group, it won't be a 'bad' watch but it will be built to a budget. It's also likely reduced because the brand isn't being sold in the UK anymore although I wouldn't trust that rrp if I'm being honest.

What size wrist do you have, there are plenty of watches that are smaller size that actually aren't 'girly'.

As to the bark and jack video, he's one of the watch people on youtube I just can't get into (I've tried several times) and to be honest half the time it feels like he's trying to get the hits (understandable to a point) more than being about 'watches'

Quick question, £3k budget what should I be considering. I have a nice Longines chrono and we are fortunate in that my inlaws are selling their Rolexes to give a lump sum to each child/couple to choose a new watch with. I have eyed up the Tudo BB58 as I am keen on a more robust dive watch but was wondering if there is anything a little left field I should consider. I'm also happy to go second hand if it represents good value.

I wouldn't call a BB58 a "robust" dive watch, for starters it has completely polished case sides that are prone to scratches, an unguarded large crown, and the bezel pip falls out on some occasions as my mate found plus the movement is not yet tried and tested to be called a workhorse movement yet (again my mate's one needed warranty work due to grinding when winding).

If I wanted a robust diver I would be looking at Sinn, they use technology and innovation in their cases and movements that most others don't and the prices are well within that budget too.

@SpeedFreak It really does depend on what you class as 'robust', if robust to you means using it as a 'daily watch' then the tudor would likely be fine, if it means 'getting muddy' at the weekend then not so much imo.

Personally I'd be looking at oris (personally I'd pick the non calibre 400 movements, you can go local on servicing as they're sellita based) and doxa, although Sinn is another good option to if you really want to go 'tool' watch in style.

Do you want to spend all of the 3K on one watch and what size watch are you looking for?

Thanks, will have a look. When I say robust, I mean relative to a chrono with an alligator strap, although the bezel pip and grinding sound a bit concerning.

As above. I'd even say the Tudor BB58 is too nice to be an every day beater despite people saying as such. I liked the smaller size and its wearability under 'hiking' clothing but I wouldn't be bashing it about an engine bay or rock climbing in it any time soon.

Edit: Can't comment on bezel pip or grinding, mine has been bullet proof.

I didn't really mean 'beater' in respect to an every day wear watch, not sure any normal person would see a 3K watch as a beater lol. It was more along the lines of one you'd wear going out or (clean) work etc without having to baby it quite so much.
