Images of items I have purchased (except trainers [no feet pics])

Thanks for replies so far! The plan is to run it for an hour or two before bed and keep the room sealed. If it has to come back on when dawn starts heating the room up, that might be tolerable if I've already had some good sleep.

My house is overly insulated from inside so basically traps heat if there is sunlight getting in. If I get it cool at night I'm hoping it stays cool ish. Office reads 28.6° right now and it will heat up further when sunset pokes into the windows.

For those who bought air conditioning units recently, how are they going and can you recommend? I don't know how many more nights I'll tolerate sleeping like this - I hate the fan noise and my partner hates the heat :p

I got a proper split unit fitted last year, 2 rooms (Bedroom and Study/Office). Wouldnt be without it tbh. The standalone units are all incredibly noisy though.

My split unit is lovely and quiet.

Bedroom portable unit is a lot louder. Use it in the baby's room for a few hours before he goes down then move it into our room and do the same. I woke up at 6.30 pretty warm so popped it back on and went back to sleep for an hour despite the noise.

For some reason the low fan mode is twice as loud as the whole thing starts to rattle a bit.

I do this in the nursery the same as @soundb0y - couple of hours before bed and it takes the edge off.

Don't underestimate a 'silent' fan blowing as well - the Boneco Airshower is what I'm using at the moment on setting 1, and prior to that had a Meaco. Just the moving stops it from getting stiflingly hot.

Mine works well and isn't too noisy for me, the night mode is a little quieter and the noise is smooth without rattles. The one I bought is not very portable, yes it's on wheels so can be moved room to room downstairs but dragging 40kg upstairs is not fun. Thought about buying another smaller unit just for the bedroom. TBH it's not been so hot here up North yet that I've needed to use it more than once - and that was really only to test it for a 24hr period.

PS5 and Ratchet and Clank. Had a little play on Astro's playroom, the new controller is really cool!

Anyone got the GoodHome Takoma from Screwfix? I'm finding the hose annoyingly short.
Yes https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/posts/34867559 and I agree it's very short. I assume it's partly intentional in that the longer the hose the harder it is for the machine to expel the hit air.

Could also be for packaging and cost reasons. But anyway, a few Screwfix reviews says that they'd extended the hose using a Manrose kit, something I'm considering.

Literally got the last one in stock for miles after yesterday's recommendations. The ones in previous posts recently are the same model - B&Q sell it too, there are 3 sizes.

Have you extended the hose fully? I only had to extend it to make bends towards the window.

No photos in situ as I just threw it in the bedroom and turned it on with newspaper over the window opening :o

It is times like this I am smug to have sash windows :D Makes the window vent kits fit perfectly with zero faff...

To be honest I'm moving house next week and the unit will work much better in the new house due to positioning by the window. Currently the bed is right next to the window so it's a PITA however the new house has a bay window so it'll be far easier. I'm still deciding on how to do the Windows kit though. My future brother in law is a carpenter so I may ask him to make something for me.

Yep, now that I know it all works I'll be making a panel that drops in. Need a flap vent as well.

Sash windows are even better once you actually fix all the sashes/weights! Housemate trapped 8 fingers the year I moved in :D

Had to look that up:

"Dutasteride, sold under the brand name Avodart among others, is a medication primarily used to treat the symptoms of an enlarged prostate. A few months may be required before benefits occur. It is also used for scalp hair loss in men and as a part of hormone therapy in transgender women. It is taken orally."

Not sure what you're taking it for! But good luck!
