I finally had my lounge units survey

I've also add this is a mockup done using DIY Kitchens. These use solid wood doors in a bespoke colour so choose whatever colour you want from their "Linwood" range. Not MDF.

The total length is 2620mm, i'm sure the fitter could use a plinth on the left side to bring it out an extra 7cm from the left wall if you wanted. The material cost comes to £660 and the units are delivered fully assembled. I would estimate to fit those units together and add the worktop would be about a days workat £200/day for a reasonable joiner and you're at around £900 fitted. Maybe add a little more to get nicer handles/your soft close hinges.

I still don't how anything is worth spending over a grand, even if you included 2 days labour.

I added a solid wooden worktop because you didn't reply earlier when i asked what the top was you were getting. If you're just having MDF/Laminate then i imagine you could knock off another £100 from that price.

DIY kitchens are highly regarded for the quality of their cabinets and you'll find a lot of people rave about them on here.
I'll add again, in some instances i understand people wanting proper fitted units, if you have alcoves/odd shaped ceilings etc where there's a benefit in that custom nature. However what you seem to be getting is very much off the shelf units like the above installed into your front room. You seem to be paying a premium for a service you don't require.

I don't think everyone (well, I'm not at least) are saying 'only buy IKEA', I just don't appreciate being called a pleb.

Fair enough, it just seems this has gone the way of many threads like this. I'm expecting psycho to come on soon and just tell him to sack it off and scrounge a load of pallets instead.

Literally the entire first page was 'lol buy Ikea'.

Literally everytime I post about fitted furniture, 90% of the replies are 'buy Ikea, why are you getting kitchen units'.

Then I'm expected to remain civil in my replies. I don't see why I should be held to a higher standard than almost everyone else on this forum.

Very good but you wasted your time as he wants French Grey, not Light Grey. don't you know that that French Grey is actually green and not grey? Unacceptable. Next!

There is no 'worktop', just the frame, its only going to have a TV sat on top of it, maybe some plants. I already picked the colour and range I want and its signed for now.

These things cost £3000+ with a few full height units thrown in. Simply removing the full height units that wouldn't fit bought it down to £1800 which is completely fine comparatively!

Again fully bespoke cut exactly to fit companies are Strachan and up, they charge £10,000+ for the same design Hammonds gave me for £2,800!!!

Hammonds and Sharps use pre sized doors which is why they cost less, and MDF / Particleboard / Laminate.

You dont get anything in real wood until going from £3000 to £10,000, and £12,000 for solid oak!!!

I've already compared all the prices and materials, real wood is into 5 figures for this!!!

The salesman really did a number on you didn't he. Nice work. Please post pics when it's fitted.

I asked to take the worktop off actually cos it looked crap and wasn't needed.

All their pictures show these ranges with just the frame, no worktop, it looks better that way!

The worktop is only needed if its for a desk.

Sharps dont even add a worktop onto their office furniture, just the painted frame. Hammonds give you the choice, I asked for no worktop.

And what does this have to do with the salesman? I have the actual quotes from Strachan. Their cheapest options would have cost double what I'm paying and they weren't nice at all. The ones I would have wanted were £10,000, the solid oak was £12,000, compared to Hammonds being £2,800 fpr the same design at the the time.

Sharps wouldn't even respond when I asked them to match or beat the price because they can't.

You literally can't get anything 'cheaper' than this from any fitted furniture company, or feel free to prove me wrong.

Rise above it, who cares.

Either way, you called me a pleb indirectly. Moving on.

You say just the frame? Hopefully you don't meant literally a frame and more frame with wood fitted to it :p

You can actually see what I mean in the two design pics in the OP. In the original design (second pic), they added on the ugly brown worktop which is normally put on if you want a desk as office furniture.

But all their pics of the lounge furniture show the tops of the units in the same colour as the rest of the units.

They add the worktop on as standard, and you have to explain to them that you want it as lounge furniture not a desk and show the pics of the same colour frame used on top. In which case beyond a TV and any light objects, you simply don't use the surface for anything heavy or any kind of work.

Haha to be fair i did also point out that i'd included the bespoke paint option where you literally look at a colour palate and go "that one" and they mix it up for you.

Local joiner stuff would never look that nice
Nonsense. A time served joiner with any sort of furniture making skills will be able to make whatever’s asked of them.
Sorry but heres an actual picture of what I'm getting actually looks like (#22)
He paid 6k for what sounds like a crap sight more than you’re getting for 1800 quid. You’re getting proper shafted
The designer I had has been working for them for decades while also having his own home design website and services on the side
Yea, of course his employer of decades is allowing him to be taking custom from them.

I was going to take time to explain the difference to you between with fitters vs joiners vs furniture makers but you’re so far off your head I doubt there’s much point.

I wonder what game that all means I’ve never completed.....

You can't be serious or you're just mad for no reason.

£4200 more for a bunch of full height units? Sizing my original plan down to what would actually fit because I dont have enough space for full height units in the lounge was on point for what I am getting.

Everyone saying I'm paying too much can't even find a better price for the same amount of fitted units. No one actually can because it doesn't exist.

There's nothing bespoke about it though?

They actually do have a minimum spend of £1,500 per room, and the word bespoke gets thrown around a lot without people realizing how much that actually costs.

Fully bespoke and individually tailor made units start with Strachan. Everyone cheaper than them uses various pre cut sizes to best fill the space you have. I don't know how many times I have to repeat this.
