handbrake is called e-brake?

How else would a car run out of power AFTER applying the brake in a safe parking space.

I’ve been insulted by better people than you so no skin off my nose.

Where did anyone mention a safe parking space?

Come on jonny, put your reading eyes in sunshine.

If better people are insulting you, maybe you need to realise you've got a problem.

It’s genuinely the only way I can think of a car running out of power after parking brake has been applied. An intentional stop event followed by battery drain over a period of time. It’s like arguing the case for manual windows incase you lose power.

I have NO problem using a forum.

think this was uncalled for tbh

Disagree, it’s Nasher.

Then your thinking is too limited. Intentional stop events dont always take place in a safe location. Never thought that someone can become stationary as a result of an obstruction ahead? Railway crossing, accident, abnormal load?

If we look at the case /1000 cars then it’s not irrational to ignore freak events and put appropriate boundary conditions to the “limited” thinking.

you need to qualify my statement with a proper counter. I referred to an intentional stop, with application of 12V powered system and then full power off/power failure… not just a Doris stopped on a railway crossing

A car losing all of its juice after the parking brake has been applied seems like an entirely real possibility to me, especially in the current state of the country with people leaving cars without driving them for weeks on end.

If you can then not disengage the brakes to move the car until you replace or charge the battery, that is quite simply poor design. Nothing more or less to it.

Sometimes people who's opinions you habitually dismiss due to unrelated events, can have a point...

How to tow car that is hand brake on?

Got to get the gearbox out of park first…

eerrr, the engine is still running. Otherwise you just parked it….

But you said you genuinely couldn't think of any instances where it could happen...

I'm not sure your stating about you knowing how to use a forum is correct tbh.

Not sure if you are trolling or denser than I remember :p

We are obviously talking about the need to move a car with a dead battery and the engine OFF.
But if it is in a safe space then it doesn't matter, I think - finding it hard to keep up.

Yeah but you soon realise life isn’t about messing with sheds on your drive where dead batteries are a daily event.

I of course, after being outside, would simple charge the car, replace the battery, energise the car with something else, read the manual, etc etc

This tedious “what’s if” nonsense on electronic handbrakes being the spawn of the devil with QWERTY soldiers is simply not the case in the real world.

Anyway I had fun. Thought Dis86 was a decent contributor to the forum but realised he’s SPC.

Worst “I’ve bought a new car” post ever.

Of course, all perfectly simple things to do when you're broken down on a motorway or country lane some where...

Its okay to be wrong Jonny, I know its hard because you work for JLR and they put electronic handbrakes in everything, you may even have had some input into the decision.

But they are a stupid idea and I don't care that you think otherwise. :p

My opinion would be different if there were a mechanical override for such situations, but to the best of my knowledge, there is not. Without disassembling the rear brakes...

I'm sure we can agree to disagree as usual. :D

How likely is it that your car breaks down on the motorway and ends up with zero battery power and thus no ability to release the handbrake?
