I was curious, this shows 5600x beating 3600 in games, couple to a 3080...there are other vids that show games(as the hardware unbox graphs show too) v similar performance, but games like rust and warzone are highly cpu intensive, and 5600x def pulls away as single core performance is better. If you're keeping cpu for 5 years, go with 5600x.
Or wait for 12th gen intel

The only problem with that is it's at 1080p, from what has been said and other videos I've watched the difference is marginal at 1440p and pretty much non-existent at 4k.

But as you say I think the better option would be for the 5600x if I'm keeping it for a number of years.

that's true, just at 1080p it highlights to a greater extent the cpu performance differences, and higher up you go(ie up to 4k gaming), all it really shows is gpu performance cap

So I ended up with a 5600x, B550 Tomahawk and 16gb of Crucial Ballistix 3600mhz Ram. So thanks for all the help in choosing.

It's all set up and running fine but now I need to pepper different threads to ask some questions about what I should expect with a ram, mobo and cpu upgrade compared to my old setup as I don't know if something is off with it.

You can download cinebench r20 and run it..it'll show your score in comparison to other CPU's and just check online what others get from there's..you can check both multicore and single core scores
