I’m so torn whether to get this game or not. My last MMO where I invested a lot of time was WOW. After that a little bit of GW2 so just wondering whether this will scratch that itch. I see reports of bots and queues and too much automation of enemies which is what is putting me off so far.

Going to see how this one looks in the new year once the initial hype has died down and server balancing has improved. Sure looks pretty though.

Similar story for me ; I've decided to stand on the sidelines and watch how it develops over the next 2-4 months. From what I've seen and heard it sounds somewhat incomplete and a bit generic. Like most recent MMOs I think it will lose a lot of players once they burn through the initial content and find that there isn't any real end game content. But it doesn't have a subscription model so that will encourgae some people to play.
Apart from the queues my other concern is the potential issue with RTX video cards ; as a 3090 owner I don't know if I want to take the chance of the game killing my card, particularly as I'm only mildly curious about it.

There are honestly quite a few bugs. Some that are quite annoying. You can be in combat and all of a sudden you can't seem to hit your enemy with your sword, and you have to swap to something else. Also the sheer amount of crafting nodes which are zoned, but already taken but visually haven't de-spawned is annoying, especially when it's something you're looking for.

I've noticed a few items you have to get on some quests are invisible and I only noticed them as the O sign appears as I was passing by.

Also I just noticed that its important to do the faction and town quests. I was trying to focus just on the main line quest but I'm finding I'm under leveled. I managed to do a few of the higher level quests because I'm in a group. But the bow I got is 2 levels to high for me. So I'm gonna have to work on the other quests.

Yup, the new year is my potential entry date. I'm not yet convinced that the game has any staying power and I feel like its going to have a very large drop off in player numbers comparatively quickly , so I'm giving it until the new year to prove to me that they can hold onto their player base before I decide to enter. If they can and they have added a lot of content then I will join in but if its still lacking in content or the player numbers have taken a significant hit then I will leave it, its not like I am in desperate need of an MMO at the moment what with the enormous amount of games out and coming out in the next 6 months, so I can be patient and wait a year if needs be.

I would agree, I'm expecting a drop off, I think once I've maxed levels, done the dungeons a few times and gotten bored of the crafting it'll be done for me and then come back for content patches etc.

What ever they have done is working. Queue times are down considerably and AFK players wall running are being kicked/suspended.
Over the last 2 days, the queue times have gone from 2 hours to 15 mins at worst.
If you are starting out fresh, grab a low pop server as the server transfer feature will see the low server populated.

Up to 23 and just taking it at my own pace, trying to learn the ropes with the different gathering and crafting options. I've started catching up with the main quest line too as I had shoved that to one side in favour of town board jobs and the random quests from NPCs. I'd been crafting my own items for steady improvements but decided to just buy the cheapest Blue items I could find with relevant rolls to my character, it feels like a pretty nice boost so far and put me way ahead of a friend who was still using the basic green items. My weapons skills are also to level 10 so they are starting to feel better to use now, it feels like the next chunk of levels are going to get much more interesting in terms of gear options and skill combinations.

My only real gripes so far are the pinned quests that seem to just re-organise themselves every now and then, it gets annoying having to keep track of everything. I've also had two quests now that I've accepted, gone to the location it's said and been confused when there is no marker or means to progress, only to find out that I'm under levelled anyway? The faction quest to take you to the next tier for example opened up at level 20, telling me to go and complete a trial in Brightwood. I went there and ran around in circles for a little while wondering how to progress until I noticed in the journal that you have to be level 24 to undertake the trial? So why give me the quest at level 20 then?

The bug where you get stuck not being able to harvest the odd resource is annoying too, the amount of times already that I've stumbled across a nice big iron/silver/gold ore only to be unable to mine it and somebody just runs along behind and nabs it instead.

Pretty much how i'm finding the game. I've been collecting and crafting to get my levels up but not at the point i can make anything worthwhile yet. I had to google the Brightwood quest as it never showed up and spent ages looking for it.

New World Update: 1.0.1 will release at 3AM PT (10AM UTC) on October 6.

Greetings, Adventurers!

What a week it has been! We’re humbled and honored by the amount of adventurers that have begun to make their mark on Aeternum.

Last week we shared that our top priority was ensuring that everyone could login and play quickly, without having to wait for queues. To accomplish that, we more than doubled the number of available servers, increased server capacity on existing servers, and are continuing to work on a feature to allow players to transfer their characters to different servers, which will be available soon. While members of our team are working tirelessly on ensuring players can find a server to call their long-term home with the character transfer feature, other members have worked on a few additional quality of life updates and bug fixes to ensure that once players have entered Aeternum they’re able to play and progress as intended.

We’ll continue to work on server transfers, bug fixes, and other issues in future updates - thanks for your reports on the official New World forums!

General
We've implemented the groundwork for the character server transfer, and you may see elements of that work in the in-game store. We're continuing to work on this feature, and will have more information on how the system works later this week when we release server transfers.

War
Changed turret projectiles in War from physical projectiles to use hitscan detection. This should help performance in War, with fewer objects being spawned in the world.

AFK Prevention
In an effort to ensure players can’t stay AFK, especially in higher population servers, we’ve made the following adjustments to the AFK prevention system.

  • Added additional AFK prevention to ensure players cannot fool the existing system with simulated mouse movement.

  • Shortened the AFK warning message from 20mins to 15mins.

  • Shortened the AFK disconnect from 25mins to 20mins.
World Queue
We added a confirmation screen when a player attempts to leave the queue for a world, asking the player to confirm if they’re intending to leave the queue. This should help ensure nobody accidentally leaves the queue and misses out on their spot in line.

Bug fixes:
General Fixes
  • Fixed a rare issue causing the interact key to not properly function on various objects in the world.
  • Fixed an issue causing the barrel to not appear in “Pirate Stance” emote.

  • Fixed an issue where players did not receive coin as a reward from some activities.

  • Fixed a bug where interrupting the fast travel animation may cause the player’s character to become stuck inside of a house.

  • Fixed an issue in Territory Standing rewards where some localized text was missing.

  • Fixed an issue where players are asked to claim achievement titles multiple times after logging back into the game, despite already having claimed the rewards.

  • Fixed an issue causing leg animations to freeze.

  • Fixed game crashes related to the New World Twitch integrations.

  • Fixed a rare issue where players could enter state where they could not be hit by most attacks.

  • Fixed an issue where certain item containers could be looted infinitely.

  • Fixed an issue where the abandoning event notification could sometimes persist after the player abandoned the event.
AI Fixes
  • Fixed an issue causing Pastor Walsh to spawn aggressively at the Walsham point of interest (POI).

  • Fixed an issue causing enemies to spawn slower than intended in the Bullrush Wash POI.

  • Fixed an issue causing Overseer Zane to respawn slower than intended in the "Something to Prove" quest.

  • Fixed an issue where Master Zindt could have duplicated respawns at the Kannan Tomb POI.
Quest Fixes
  • Added missing journal information about the recommended quest level for players attempting to unlock the second faction rank.
  • Fixed an issue where resetting the “Blessings of Earth” quest when you have gained any of the blessings will block progression in the Main Story Quest (MSQ).

  • Fixed an issue where the "Azoth Fulminate" quest will be unavailable to players if they first complete other Windsward quests.

  • Fixed an issue where completing the “Goodwill Squashing” quest prevents the player from obtaining the “Arruda Jam” quest.

  • Fixed an issue where the barkeep conversation state in First Light can enter a state where quests cannot be obtained from the barkeep.

  • Fixed an issue where completing the "Taste for Revenge" quest prevents the player from obtaining the "Predator, Prey" and "Great Expectations" quests.

  • Fixed an issue where completing the “Curse of Ebony Hawk” quest prevents the player from obtaining the “Bond’s Gambit” quest.

  • Fixed an issue where completing "The Expedition into Saircor" quest prevents the player from obtaining the "One Threat at a Time" quest.

  • Fixed an issue where completing the "Strength of the Earth" quest prevents the player from obtaining the "Fading Lights" and "Azure Tears" quests.

  • Fixed an issue where completing the "Twisted Metamorphosis" quest prevents the player from obtaining the "Blessings of the Fallen" quest.

  • Fixed an issue where completing the "Facets of Light and Darkness" quest prevents the player from obtaining the "Descent to Frosted Slumber" and "Transmuting Iron to Dust" quests.

Thanks for your support! See you in Aeternum.

I am surprised there is nothing to do with all the crashes/freezing problems.

How common are they? I've yet to buy it but keeping an eye out for patches.

Completely depends on certain hardware i think, some people don't have any at all when others can be plagued by it. My computer on windows 10 had nothing but freezes & my laptop on windows 10 was fine.
