The retailer has two cards in stock that can (apparently) already be ordered. The GAMING Z TRIO model is listed at 1699 EUR while SUPRIM X is available at 1799 EUR. This is 300 EUR and 400 EUR more respectively than the 10GB models listed by Mindfactory (although not from the same manufacturer because the retailer has no MSI 10GB card in stock):

  • MSI RTX 3080 12GB GAMING Z TRIO: 1699 EUR
  • MSI RTX 3080 12GB SUPRIM X: 1799 EUR
  • GIGABYTE RTX 3080 10GB GAMING OC/VISION OC: 1399 EUR
The MSRP of the new 12GB version of the RTX 3080 SKU is not yet known. In fact, there is no confirmation that NVIDIA will even list the price on its website or communicate it to the media, as there won’t be a Founders Edition model. The upgraded RTX 3080 cards will only be available through board partners, who are reluctant to speak bout their inflated GPU pricing.

Can't wait for 4080's  clear sign the 4080 will be 2K+ Euros.

French retailer confirms GeForce RTX 3080 12GB preorders start today

NVIDIA RTX 3080 12GB preorders today
The new RTX 30 is just around the corner.

Today NVIDIA is doing a strange launch of its latest Ampere GPU, the RTX 3080 12GB with GA102-220 GPU. The word ‘launch’ is a bit of exaggeration here, but at the same time, it is hard to consider this just an announcement when the embargo on both the reviews and preorders lifts on the same day. This is exactly what is happening with RTX 3080 12GB today.

NVIDIA has not publicly confirmed or even teased a possibility that there might be a new GPU being introduced, however is no longer a secret anymore. In fact, just as the rumors have predicted, the preorders will begin immediately after the introduction.

This fact has just been confirmed by Materiel.net, a large French retailer that will begin taking preorders today at 15:00 CET (a typical embargo hour for NVIDIA). The retailer says that there are definitely not enough cards for everyone, which indicates a limited launch.

Update: the retailer has removed the tweet, but we still have the copy: https://cdn.videocardz.com/1/2022/01/Materiel-RTX3080-Tweet.jpg

NVIDIA RTX 3080 12GB is a new high-end model equipped with 8960 CUDA cores and 12GB of GDDR6X memory. This card is a minor spec upgrade over RTX 3080 10GB which is probably why NVIDIA does not want to spend too much effort on turning this into a big launch.

Interestingly, NVIDIA is also to launch its RTX 3090 Ti and RTX 3050 GPUs by the end of this month, which makes this sudden appearance of a new SKU just as confusing as it could be. After all, not a single word about this card was spoken during NVIDIA’s CES 2022 last week.

€1699 ?!?!?!? I like Nvidia's products but their modus operandi is scummy as hell, Not to mention all the retailers who enable this behaviour. I really hope Intels GPU's, At least in price to performance, Can make Nvidia eat humble pie and lots more people divert away from buying Nvidia.

So, as no FE model, presumably these will be LHR? Bit of hope for gamers, aside from those prices, or that there will be any reasonable amount of stock of them
I'm certain that they will be LHR since they're using a new GPU configuration, but a lack of a FE isn't evidence of that. The 3070 Ti and 3080 Ti FEs are LHR after all. There's no FE for these because Nvidia don't want to sell you one for anything close to the 3080 MSRP, and pricing it nearly alongside the 3080 Ti FE would be bad PR.

IMO they will probably compete well with the better price/performance cards like the 3060Ti, but at least it's a good start if so.

Would an extra 2gb ram really make that much difference?

It has 256 cores / 2SM's more than a 3080 and 350w card ..

https://videocardz.com/newz/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3080-12gb-now-rumored-to-announced-on-january-11th

According to the leaked specs, GeForce RTX 3080 12GB is to feature not only 2GB more than the original 10GB model, but also a wider memory bus, which as result increases maximum bandwidth to 912 GB/s. Furthermore, a new GA102 GPU featuring 8960 CUDA cores is to be adopted by this variant, increasing the core count by 3% over the existing model.

At this point in time, it is unclear why NVIDIA is releasing a newer RTX 3080 model, or what will happen to the existing 10GB version. What is clear is that NVIDIA is now to announce yet another high wattage GPU in a span of two weeks. The company already revealed its RTX 3090 Ti flagship GPU with 450W TDP this Tuesday and will now add 350W TDP RTX 3080 12GB.

This is absolutely absurd. You can buy an AIB 3080 Ti right now which is terrible value at 1599 so why would you bother with this card? Both are insultingly expensive. Calculating move to ditch the original 3080 MSRP as it's too cheap in today's market apparently. If you don't have a huge library of PC games, go to console and move on.

oh so no FE 3080 12gb but the 3090 TI FE will be avaliable which will probably match or be lower in price ?

Doesn't mean they will sell the 3090Ti FE maybe just a prop for all we know (nothing more than a 3090 FE with Ti added on), they said nothing about pricing and said wait till later in the month to hear what will happen. Maybe no FE 3090Ti FE too and maybe that's the end of FE models from them now, who knows with them. Also if they have a FE 3090Ti then expect a MSRP of £1999.99 it wont be less if they have real stock and if priced less they will be unicorn cards and only reviewers will have them and no normal person can buy one, apart from the 5 they send to each country to make it look like they had some to sell.

I'm sure the AIBS have something to say about the not normal amount of sales of FE models this time too, normally FE models have a very short selling time and go EOL really quickly.

Back in 2020 the 2080ti was £1200+ so price/performance not really terrible for these new cards, just that a £650 3080 (if you got one) SHOULD have been the benchmark ... if only :(
