Russia invading Ukraine is not really feasible for Ukraine, Germany should shoulder some of the cost and do the right thing and help Ukraine if they're really behind them

It is simply a financial decision that this has happened. The economy of the west is more important than the freedom of 44 million people. Sad but true.

Another bridge, another load of Russian armour crossing it... sad that various parts of Ukraine weren't prepared for this despite the advanced warnings from the West:

Obviously, you can't hide such a large force, being able to see the Russian forces build up has little to do with getting details info on their plans though.

Poor planning if they aren’t currently detonating it.

you misunderstand, it's not that Germany is not willing to bear the cost (or maybe they do), the post I was making that it is not feasible in terms it is physically not possible for Germany. Perhaps they can make a roadmap how to replace gas needs but it will take months if not years (again though not an expert, it's just what I gathered)

UK government imposes more measures against Russia

Downing Street said the UK government's plan of action against Russia consists of 10 components:

• An intention to impose asset freeze on all major Russian banks with an immediate freeze against VTB which has assets totalling £154bn

• To introduce legislation on Tuesday that will prohibit the ability of all Russian companies to raise finance on UK markets

• To issue sanctions against individuals, entities and their subsidiaries which include Rostec - Russia's largest defence company

• Look to imminently ban the ability of Aeroflot to land in the UK

• To immediately suspend the use of export licences to Russia - an example being electrical components or parts of military trucks

• To lay legislation "within days" that will prohibit a wide range of high tech exports to Russia

• Look at introducing legislation that would limit the amount of deposits Russian nationals will be able to hold in UK bank accounts

• To work with G7 and NATO allies to shut off Russia's access to the SWIFT payment system

• To extend the full range of these measures to Belarus

• Look at bringing forward the Economic Crime Bill which will take action against Russians who raise funds in the UK before the Easter recess

Chernobyl has been taken by Russian forces. A chilling thought given the sensitive nature of the site and what it contains.

Doesn't necessarily need to even be rigged up - have thrown in an additional edit but it's kinda perfect for light guns too - have a FOO party/fire support team or even mortars, MBTs and IFVs can't respond well as it's out of the line of sight for them and the FOO party or MFC with eyes on isn't exactly going to draw attention to their location.

While some of the heavier stuff (missile launchers etc.. might have been destroyed in Russian airstrikes, light guns are easily transported by vehicle, helicopter etc.. and easily hidden too. Just seems very off not to have deployed them to cover obvious vulnerable points in a major city.

It makes you wonder how well prepared and equipped they actually are.

The role of Belarus in all this hasn't really been highlighted enough. Good to hear the same will be extended to them too.

I thought the Germans normally liked having a pop at the Russians?

There's still some love in Eastern Germany for the USSR.

Only those who voted Green thought it was remotely the right decision to close the Nuclear plants and end up relying on Russian gas and dirty coal from lignite mines in Germany. Was clearly a massive mistake at the time and certainly Merkel's biggest error.

only a fool can relate the USSR with modern Russia.

Did Labour really just ask if the UK would support a negotiated settlement? I hope that politician is investigated for links to Russia. This is exactly what they would want. Glad Boris shut that down and said negotiations were for before this conflict started and are no longer possible.

Instead of just freezing these assets, can't we seize them and give them to the NHS?

Make the money work for a good cause.

And reduce our taxes a touch.

That was an obvious move it could have been used as a weapon the threaten the East and now it could be used to threaten the West, desperate people do terrible things.
