I didn't ask about interventions in other countries, I asked about annexations, It was a rhetorical question really.
Yep. A very specific question to try and differentiate Russian actions from our own.

when did WE last annex Ukraine???!!!!

somewhat like the biggest war in Europe type quotes. We like wars in other continents much better.

Well that's the thing, any invasion by Russia would receive plenty of publicity in this day and age.
That's were we disagree. the publicity is because it is in europe. It wouldn't even need to be russia doing the invading.

So no, it doesn't happen simply because people are told about it, people are making a choice as they aren't being told to take people in.

When you say "we" you really aren't speaking for everyone there.
Fair point, though i think the people that actually care are a minority.

Look at this thread people talking about how these heroes gave their lives to slow the russian advance. Except there is no reinforcement coming from the west, at best they bought their country a few more hours of freedom. We are scared (for good reason). It's not like any of us are going to hop on a plane to help them. So we cheer them on go an die at the hands of the Russian war machine while we sit on our ass and send Russia a strongly worded letter. Don't worry all you brave soldiers we will tell your story in the next CoD game.

******* disgusting

Russians either have terrible aim or they're clearly targeting civilian locations.

Mostly terrible aim/lack of precision munitions... They can't really do US-style "shock and awe".

They could do indiscriminate shelling but that doesn't really achieve much in terms of military objectives other than terrorising/killing the civilian population and causing more dissent at home.

So you really believe this wouldn't be 24/7 world news if Russia were invading a country with a similar population size that isn't on the European or American continents?

The reinforcement from the west is a government and NATO level decision. Just because they've offered no direct military support on the ground, within Ukraine, doesn't mean that people the world over don't care.

Waking up and turning on the news I see that the western leaders have gone into rhetoric overdrive telling us plebs how they stand with the Ukrainian people shoulder to shoulder whilst talking of applying meaningless sanctions, the Ukraine will be sacrificed because of the wests inaction in the past and now it is too late.
Well the index fell 33% from a larger number yesterday, now have rise 22% but that 22% rise is from a smaller number, so it's still huge fall overall.

Bet there was a lot of unscrupulous us dollars in that...

You seem to be outraged about people being outraged at an unprovoked invasion of a European state. Very odd

Why cant Ukraine be immediately signed into NATO and then it would get the full support needed?

What is stopping this from happening? I ask as i really dont know.

I don’t think that Latvia or Lithuania would jump for joy to find out that they’d suddenly got a new member in their “all for one, and one for all” club, that is at the moment being attacked by a strong country.

Russians either have terrible aim or they're clearly targeting civilian locations.
Or any hit on a civilian building gets massive (western) media coverage.
Meanwhile civilian hits in donbass got no coverage in past 8 years.

Yes I do.

The russians are out protesting their governments actions. Are our people out protesting our governments lack of action? If its happening I haven't heard anything about it.

Nice strawman.

People have short memories, Russia started the cluster**** that was Afghanistan with another great invasion. They walked away with the bill for that one quite well tbh.

Quite prophetic words from Nixon. You know Russia has it bad when the Taliban are calling for restraint!
True, on both accounts.

Putin apparently has changed over the years, he doesn't really give a **** about what other countries think now. In the early days he got on pretty well with some leaders like Berlusconi. There's even a time he was in stitches laughing at one of our own Robin Cook's jokes but those times are long behind us. The threat from NATO, real or manufactured, has galvanised the thoughts on a more imperialist looking Russia.

This has now probably set in motion the global outlook for much of the next few decades.

"The Russians", you mean a few thousand out of a country of 144 million, protesting their government's choice to wage war on a country. What would you like the British people to be protesting then? Further sanctions or Getting directly involved on the ground?

You mentioned that this is a government decision as if the people can do nothing but accept it. My point is that we have ways of airing our grievances with government decisions. Though it is questionable if it works.
