India are part of the BRICS group along with Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa. They don't want to **** off one of their main trading partners who also happens to be their arms dealer.

Rest of the world needs to work together to offset these kind of problems, same with Germany and gas, etc. we can't let these problems stand in the way of dealing with this kind of tyranny.

Don't really understand why India doesn't have a more developed defence industry, but they'd probably better start building one before Russia cuts them off through agreements with China.

India hold a lot of contracts to build their own Russian kit under licence. If Russia gets cut of economically it actually works in their favour as they could legally stop paying royalties xD

I don't understand India. Aren't they supposed to be a democracy.

You don't understand Indian history then:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India_and_the_Non-Aligned_Movement

It has tended to try and abstain from trying to take sides in a lot of these kinds of things, and is more concerned with its regional issues.

What is more significant is China abstained, which is unheard off in recent years,as they have voted in concert WRT to vetoes with Russia.

I would argue India has a longer history as a partner than China has been with Russia. This is because of historical reasons. The US aligned with Pakistan during the Cold War,and blocked India from many high tech technologies, and that included US engines for fighters. The Swedish tried selling the Saab Viggen in the late 1970s but the US vetoed the engines. Also during the Bangladesh war of independence, the US tried to support Pakistan by threatening India with nuclear weapons:

As a result the Indian defence industry for decades has been more reliant on Russian,French and British technologies, and only in the last 10~20 years have they been cleared to actually access US defence technologies.

India are looking to partner with the USA I heard. Bad move for them

Actually, the US is trying to partner with India as a bulwark towards China as part of the Quad:

The more we hear, the more deranged the Russians seem to be. Quite worrying.

I wonder whether NATO are considering some sort of new defensive treaty with Ukraine to try and stop Russia in their tracks. Give them 48 hours to withdraw all forces from Ukraine, or else. We’d of course need every aspect of the NATO military to be mobilised, including the nuclear side of things.

I am aware that will cause an incredibly tense stand off… but it feels wrong to sit idly by and allow this to happen. Most of these sanctions so far are a joke.

It’s also embarrassing how the likes of Germany and Italy are behaving when it comes to sanctions. Pathetic.

RUSSIA'S UN ENVOY: “Russian troops are not bombing Ukrainian cities. There are no verifiable deaths of civilians.”

US ambo replies; “I am not going to reply to the atrocious lies and propaganda you just heard.”
Ukraine representative: “I will not respond to the diabolical Russian script”
Ukraine at UN to Russia: “you may stop the vote here but you will not stop the bodies of Russian soldiers being delivered to their mothers.”

Russia are really making themselves seem bad if these are all accurate!
If you had read any of the military related threads in the last 10 years you think the Russia military was modernised with badass supermen for specials forces and unstoppable hypersonic missiles. When it comes to action time it seems their airforce is using any old junk they can find that's still working and there not so special forces getting routed and humiliated on one of the first missions of the war.

That picture isn't of bombing BTW - aircraft, possibly Ukrainian, shot down by air defences - I'm not up to speed on the latest details as to which side did which.
