Never realised Ukraine was so cosmopolitan. Can’t see one Ukrainian looking refugee in this photo

It's interesting - while we have rich Chinese and Western Europeans at our universities, people from less well-off (per head of population) nations have rather different patterns - Indian students opting to study in Kyiv etc..

I've always seen Putin as a rational, calculating sort who plays the long game. This seems so utterly out of character, I think he might be... ill? Either physically or mentally.

Just idle speculation, really.
I think you've only got to see that video with the exchange between Putin and his spy chief to see that he's likely surrounded by yes men who are only telling him what he wants to hear, so it's likely what Putin thinks is going on and what's actually going on lower down the chain has a bit of a gap between them.

So if they call Ukraine their home, why aren’t the men staying to defend it!
Where is that picture from, is it legitimate? The vast majority have stayed to fight, they have no choice.

As far as I know he banned all men aged 18-60 from leaving. He didn't anything about ethnicity.

Think i will go with expert opinion from CNN, not wiki thanks.

Scroll down to where direct comparisons between active personnel, and reserveists are charted.

Here is my thoughts.

The size of the army isnt the size of the force for the invasion, Russia will never commit its entire army, but of course Ukraine defending its homeland will. So the numbers will be closer than you think.

On the equipment, we have seen so far, Russia using cold war era equipment. Ukraine, I expect will very likely have access to modern equipment supplied by allies mixed in with their own equipment.

Then you have to take into account defensive advantage.

On paper Russia should be the favourites, but I am not sure if its so one sided as you think it will be, unless Russia goes into carnage mode and starts lobbing missile after missile.

They may not even be living there, they might be tourists or students on a gap year for all we know.
Yes, those people should be evacuated, but immigrant men of fighting age who have settled in Ukraine and taken advantage of what Ukraine had to offer them, should stay and fight for it.

Exactly, it has actually committed most of its combat-ready troops though, the mistake posters like that are making is just looking at numbers on paper... Ukraine had hundreds of thousands of troops on paper too in 2014, very few were in any position to engage in combat in the East.

That's changed after years of preparing, training from the West etc.. and now Ukraine has various well-trained battle groups it can deploy. Russia doesn't have 1 million troops it can simply deploy in battle groups, it has 1 million troops that can maybe man a border post somewhere in the far east... in terms of combat-ready battle groups, most of those are deployed to Ukraine or surrounding areas already.

That's why Putin has had to reach out the Chechens, Kazakstan (denied) etc..

Mr. Hitler had that attitude and look what happened there. The Russians are used to hardship, accept orders and discipline, are as tough as old boots, and from the ones I know over here would be a first choice to have alongside me if there was any physical argy-bargy going on. Their national pride is exemplary and their willingness to fight for it evident from WW2 to today's Russian football hooligans ;) Underestimate them at your peril!

I think we have found a Russian spy. What a load of tripe. What are you taking about :D I can't stop laughing.....
