I watched this video earlier on on why Russia is invading Ukraine. Really good and worth a watch

if it is accurate I kind of understand russias motivations and can’t see them stopping and perhaps why the generals won’t oppose him.

tdlr Ukraines recently discovered gas reserves which were being developed by Shell could have replaced russias supply to Europe crippling their economy. Access to the Black Sea and something about a line being pushed back so nato forces would have to pass through a corridor which Russia could defend. And with Ukraine asking to join nato it would be almost impossible for Russia to defend plus they have key oil infrastructure close to border which the Germans almost captured and is of strategic importance.

Anyhow perhaps someone more educated in matter could chime in, is fascinating all the bits behind what’s going on.

Sure, I was generalising. Obviously there's some good stuff on the field as well. Putin is certainly sending some of his best. The problem is that he doesn't have much 'best' to send in the first place.

Footage of captured soldiers and vehicles tends to follow a consistent theme: young conscripts, and old equipment.

When you see Russian soldiers in a tank that's literally stuck on the side of the road because they've run out of fuel, you have to wonder if Russia learned anything from her disastrous adventures in Chechnya.

Tbf, with sufficient concentration of numbers one can take a city with sticks and stones, but the death toll will be enormous. I don't think Putin particularly cares about how many bodies he throws at the problem here as he's in a cornered political position now.

The doctrine as has been commented in the our media is fairly standard for Russia: move in quickly, encircle, probe with light and special forces, move the heavy equipment and bulk troops for a massed attack at key points. If he could take the cities with minimal resistance and special forces alone - great, he would take it; if not, the heavy stuff, regardless of its age or quality, is yet to come.

The former part of the approach has been mistaken for military gentleness in light of wanting to avoid civilian deaths and large scale infrastructural damage to paint this as some kind of humanitarian 'free Donbas' mission, but that's out the window now. If the goal is to break the organised defence in the way of the Russian invasion, these considerations no longer apply - they will level cities and move through the rubble.

Very intriguing. If legit, I wonder whether a ceasefire would be agreed and on what conditions.

If Putin is on death's door as the roumers lead us to believe, in his eyes he may as well go out with a bang. Stuff of James Bond movies this.

In reality this is probably his way of minimising what he's done in Ukraine i.e "it could have been worse"
