So you're saying that even though the Ukrainian soldiers could wipe out that convoy that has invaded their country they are deciding against it ?
I'm not sure I believe you.

The US is commercially aggressive and looks to protect commercial interests - typically this becomes arms when Putin or Xi are on the other side supplying arms too.

In the end countries with resources become pawns for the larger countries to invest, then that becomes a protection of investment and then protection of resource access.

Look at Iran - both Russia and China invest, both want something back for that investment and that's a safeguarded supply of oil. Should that come under threat, they will act to protect the resource access and not care about Iranian people.

However it typically starts with commercial investment - belt and road anyone? It's the same with EU and with the US. Once the money becomes a revenue for the country, the government will be expected to pay attention to the investor/customer.. finance 101.

TL;DR - All countries do this, be it oil, gas, uranium, copper, or coffee..

Thing is, if Russia decides to raze Kyiv remembering of course that all of this is based on lies (and the world knows it) there will be an absolute outcry. I have no idea how or what will happen, but I'm pretty sure it would be very bad for Russia.

At the same time, I'm not sure how Russia gets out of what it's gotten itself into, if it pulls it's troops back and gives up - it'll be one of the most humiliating episodes in military history - happening to a country which is obsessed with not being humiliated.

If he doubles down and pushes in, kills the Ukrainian PM and smashes up Kyiv - Russia is going to end up ultimately being treated like North Korea - that's going to really hurt it's people

Well that's the only rational explanation, obviously I've got no clue really, but to stop a convoy like that wouldn't take a lot and its not exactly secret. Every other big scary attack has turned out to four fifths of sweet fa.
