If true, be interesting to see if the military fold.

Watch how the police and the internal military react. If they go quiet then you know something is really up.

I agree that it seems unlikely they'd replace a military chief of staff, I would expect it to be a meeting of down dressing and F words, brown undies by the yes men and him leaving the meeting with an understanding that he should take personal command of the situation in the field..

I'm curious about Russians abroad. If this law passes that supporting Ukraine/speaking against the military operation etc.. will carry a 20 year prison sentence, can Russians say for example in Spain, claim political asylum on the bases they may have donated to Ukraine and supported them openly on social media.

Also with flights cancelled, will countries allow Russians to extend their visas due to the extra difficulties in getting back home.

I'm not sure the world would react like that unfortunately. Dowie put up a picture of what they did to Grozny in '95 and that's inside their territory!

I'm rather worried about Kyiv now, they've got most roads cut off and have made comments about leaving a route for civilians to escape, this could be their excuse to ramp things up and start bombarding it like Grozny... claiming they gave people the option to leave. Seems like they're getting a bit desperate, I really hope the additional air support can do something about that massive convoy to the north of the city.

That's what i think, maybe thats why they are pulling back to either resupply or airstrikes and dont want their own military killed.

So what's the estimated Ukraine losses so far? All I see being reported is the supposed number of Russians killed.

Ukraine was posting losses quite regularly. Not sure if they still are or if it's just getting lost amongst everything else.
Last I saw civilian deaths were in the region of 300-400 region, with close to 2,000 injuries. I haven't seen military loses posted recently.

I remember watching a video of Putin when his inner circle were voting on going in to Ukraine to defend those 2 areas, and even then his head of intelligence wasn't that keen. Putin kept asking him does he support it and the guy kept mumbling and then eventually said yes.

I don't know how the moral argument can go on in Russia. Putin lied to his own people about going in as peacekeepers to defend those 2 rebel held areas when really he was planning a full scale invasion.

The argument that he doesn't want Nato against the Russian borders is also weird because both Estonia and Latvia are Nato members and they border Russia.

He's also got this paranoid thinking that Nato was going to attack Russia. There is no evidence for this. I can see it being uncomfortable to have Nato against the border. But Putin fired the first shot by crossing the border in to Ukraine.

I was watching Russia Today earlier and just seeing the delusion they have. Any legitimate point they had about Nato as gone when they decided to invade another country. If they can't see that then they have a problem.

The US/UK/EU needs to start openly offering (or funding on behalf of Ukraine) bounties for Russian troops to desert. Conscripts in Russia are so badly paid and join because they have few prospects, cold hard cash + resettlement in Ukraine could be a tempting offer for some. Wouldn't actually take much funding and for bonus points, they could hand over their equipment to the Ukrainian military too.

Well by the looks of things there's a constant flow of reinforcements coming back from the west so even if Kyiv is encircled the Russian forces to the West (assuming we believe them) will also be at risk.

Yup, I'm just concerned about what they might do with the munitions they do have in the meantime before they run out of fuel/supplies or face additional Ukranian reinforcements.

This is not entirely correct. There are two terms limits in Russian constitution. If I recall correctly, the two terms clause was worded poorly, which allowed a candidate to be elected president non-consequtively (ie serve two times, elect another president and serve two times again). So Putin served twice, then let Medvedev serve once and now serving his 4th term. Recently Russia amended their constitution to fix this poor wording so that nobody can serve more than two times as the president of Russia. However, during this amendment it was argued that it resets Putin's meter giving him an option to serve two more times.

So to sum it up, from now on russian president can serve only two times. However Putin can serve two more times for a total of 6 now but according to the Russian constitution he cannot serve more after that.

I stand corrected...although something tells me he will change it again.

Don't let it worry you its not your responsibility

Paid in Euro into Swiss accounts should make them happy..

Only issue is that I'd expect the families would be targeted by Putin's FSB mates.
