I think this is far more likely that people think and are being led to believe. And I don't think it's about, nor will it lead to Armageddon either.

We Europeans have been brought up thinking about and being worried about a strategic nuclear war, where each side, having used the mutual assured destruction premise and deterrence, basically says "**** it" and presses the reset button. Everyone loses. That's because Europe was always perceived as the battlefield between East and West.

The US and Russia don't see that as the full picture. A far more likely scenario is the use of theatre or tactical nukes. Smaller warheads designed to be used against hard targets and as warnings to the other side that things have got real. European powers really don't like this concept for obvious reasons and a lot of non-proliferation talks and treaties have been about controlling their development and deployment. Needless to say, the Russians have 1000s of them.
 
It would be funny if Liz Truss becomes the future name of rock bands, a la Franz Ferdinand.

Mhmm and from Russian perspective the west had abused their weakness post 1991 USSR dissolution. The point here is that such statements are really not going to help anybody fix anything.

Putin sees himself as The Tsar. As such he feels the need to control over all the Russians and historic Russian lands. This all goes back nearly a 1000 years. He's attempting to secure his legacy and write his name in history and Tsarist folklore. His moves make a lot more sense when viewed with that in mind.
 
It's ironic that Putin thinks that his actions are bringing Ukraine back into Russian sphere of influence. What he did was completely sever the connection Ukrainians and Russians had.

Just noticed the reddit feed suggesting that Patel is still refusing to allow visa waivers for refugees...

It is bluster of a high order.
Mind you some Russians used to admire Maggie when she told them off.

What on earth is this **** about nazification he keeps going on about?

Their leader is Jewish, and his family were killed by the nazis/were put in auswitchz. I very much doubt he is a Nazi!
 
I wonder if all the people who are excited to be standing up Putin really understand what that actually entails, you may as well be cheering on the end of Humanity with glee, people are so stupid it's scary. The only thing we should be doing is finding a peaceful way to end this conflict and live in peace.

So Putin says no defensive capabilities as part of the negotiations.. Asking for the impossible is a diplomatic way of saying **** off.
