The TV news was pointing out that we still used Russian oil and gas hence pay for Putin’s War.

there will be a natural point that the consumption rate needs reducing/substituting.
They're offering it at a discount at the moment, so I imagine all of the spineless buyers will be happily snapping it up "cause there is no rule they can't" and "they aren't the judge of morals!!1"

Russia wanted security guarantees and NATO replied that a countries right to choose their own alliances is sacred. For Russia, Ukraine in NATO is existential threat.
The gaping flaw in that argument, is that if Russia were that terrified of Ukraine joining NATO then they would have invaded back in 2008 when Ukraine and NATO began the membership process (like they did to Georgia). Granted Russia were worse off than they are now militarily but so were Ukraine, and even more so. It would have been a much better time to strike, but they didn't, they sat back and did nothing (except cheer when Ukraine chose to abandon it's NATO application a couple of years later, big mistake there) because their existential threat argument is just ******** they cooked up as another layer of justification for their land grab, it has no more validity than their argument that they're preventing genocide by Nazis.

Perhaps but it's not as if Ukraine being in will make a huge difference to any of that, US is the real power house in NATO, I think Ukraine are more interested in it from the defensive point of view.

I've said before but I'd prefer a more open Russia than the version we have, they should not fear the west but instead work with it.

The main concern from the Russian point of view is that long term NATO would deploy military infrastructure that could either increase US first strike capabilities or reduce Russia's nuclear strike capabilities, either or both introduce a security threat. We already saw deployment of missile shields in Poland and Romania.

Ukraine is of course interesting in a NATO alliance, Ukraine does not want to attack Russia (well not before Crimea at least) but that doesn't change the fact that Ukraine in nato is again an considerable security risk from Russia and Russia will not just let it go unanswered.

Wah. Wah. Wah.

Tiny Lebanon deals with a million refugees from our wars, but fifth biggest economy in the world UK can't stand up to the plate for tiny numbers of refugees. How little do you, and other pretend patriots, think of our country that we can't step up to the plate for this? Pathetic.

This. Its an absolute disgrace how xenophobic this country has become. Put some bloody tents up a field...as long as people are safe lets make it work.

Half of bloody London has just become fair game lmao. 240k houses just empty and we cant take people in? lol

We aren't on the edge of that war zone like Eastern European countries are. Hence they have a different visa scheme to admit people quickly into a neighbouring country because that is right to open that passage of travel quickly in the circumstances.
What difference would an open border make then? Absolutely nothing. Anyone who has
1) escaped a war zone
2) made it across europe
3) made it across the channel

Has more right to be here than most of the ***** that claim birth right

This is an unfair assessment, I was under the impression you knew history of the region better than that. Economically and military Russia was in a bad place. Although Ukraine was leaving Russian sphere of influence back in 2004 Russia still had considerable political influence there. Russian strategy was clearly that of political in nature, hence heavy backing of Yanukovich, which stopped NATO ascension process when he won in 2010. They did not need to invade back in 2008 because previous government was extremely unpopular by that point and a political solution looked likely. Then 2014 protests happened, then political solution to the Ukrainian problem was dropped and a more hard lined military path chosen with invasion of Crimea and Donbas.

Deals with? Deals with?!

Lebanon is a wreck. I know people there. I talk to them regularly. It's falling apart at the seams. The economy, the corruption, the wars, it's awful.

They "deal with" refugees, sure, they put up with them. They accommdate them. But there is no way on Earth you can compare Lebanon's situation to the UK or seek to. That's such an insane comparison I'm lost for words that you even attempted it.

Because, how we treat others really shows the true character. Also I really don’t think we’ve lead the world. It’s been pretty uniform across the EU and NATO.

the refugee issue is going to last a lot longer than the war, we’ve done the easy bit but we aren’t willing to do the tough bit. I’m glad that our European neighbours are more compassionate.

To name but a few: Alongside the US we have lead the world in training the Ukraine military's since 2014, we dropped some of the first equipment supplies to them, we then backed this up with some of the first meaningful anti-tank weapons, alongside the US we are providing intel to Ukraine again one of two leading the world, whilst the EU blundered around during the first few days we became one of the leaders and i think one of the first to impose any meaningful sanctions on Russia, we then lead the world in calling for them to be kicked out of swift, we have then flown countless flights both over the EU and into key countries like Poland supplying both reconnaissance, refueling, escort and patrol capabilities which next to the US is probably the most. And now we are allowing in controlled numbers certain types of refugees.

I'm really not seeing much to complain about in terms of our response.

Just seen this, wow. Props to Boris. He's totally right.

Sure it's awful for the people on the ground in the Ukraine but you just can't engage the Russians in direct combat.
She's clueless. A lot of the "bombs" she is referring to, are actually missiles and shells fired from the ground. A no fly zone wouldn't a lot at the moment.

Do you miss a point for a living? Or are you just so bad at it that they let you do it for free?
