Sounds more promising than the last round of negotiation.

While there has sadly been civilian deaths, it’s not like Russia are sending round death squads to eliminate everyone. They’re letting ordinary Ukrainians come and go as they please and in some cases, giving warnings as to where they’re targeting in order to minimise casualties.

I’m not trying to make out the Russians as angels, but they’re not like Isis or the Taliban.

It seems very out of character for the Russian army. They normally go all in on artillery, from the start.

That this hasn't happened (yet) suggests they are playing nice. For now.

They definitely have a hitlist as they've said as much, but yes for the most part they aren't slaughtering everyone which I think is mostly expected since the Kremlin likely already worried about morale and didn't want to compound it.

Doubt that will be the case when they get their police state up and running to 'reeducate' the people for daring to criticise their new 'democratically' elected leader.

That's because by all accounts from info coming out of Ukraine, the majority of the Russian cannon fodder are on a peacekeeping, mission of liberation, entering a friendly territory to rid it of some bad guys. They are also not greatly equipped with ammo or other resource so best save those bullets for the bad guys who supposedly need it.

Likewise, the mission was likely to overthrow the government and install puppet regime as quickly as possible. They needed, initially at least, to keep the people on side as much as possible. The resistance and resilience of the Ukrainian government and military has naturally spread to its people meaning this objective has been made so much harder long term.

That's why I suspect this will be resolved diplomatically for the short term. Longer term I'd expect Western sanctions and pressure to remain, and wait out Putin ir force regime change itself. This has been the opportunity the West have been waiting for and it's downfall has been brought about by Putin himself and this huge miscalculation. There has never been the same opportunity to apply such measures to Russia without the direct risks of war, this has been a gift in that way, it wasn't an invasion or crime against humanity in some perceived 3rd world country, but an aspirational 1st world country on the cusp of full western integration on the European continent.

Now that is quality.

Ukrainian soldiers have repulsed Russian forces in Makariv near Kyiv according to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny.

Guess you didn't see the images of the old couple shot up in their car, or the footage of the guy recording his & his families + dogs deaths on the road somewhere presumably trying to escape, or the footage of the guys in a van trying to get around a lorry the Russians had placed in the middle of the road to obstruct it and started shooting at them when they tried to drive around it, or the footage of people going about their business but getting in the way of the rockets. I get what you're trying to say but even in the first few days some of what I've just mentioned happened and it's only getting worse and will continue to get worse in the coming weeks & months.

Their patience for the people is apparently wearing thin

Could Putin finally be looking for an out now?
The video I posted earlier really explains what they are trying to achieve. They just want NATO not expand any more and for Russia be recognised as a super power once again. Ukraine was too strategic for them to lose to the west. I could see Ukraine divided with a new west side of Ukraine that is managed from Lviv. This side would joint NAM and would always stay neutral. The rest of Ukraine would be part of Russia. That is of this conflict keeps going. Ukraine may be able to get themselves to a position where they commit to never join EU or NATO, join NAM instead and have an election that would out a more Russia favouring government there. It was also interesting the video explained why China is a more important focus and Russia would be useful for the West in future.
