I honestly can't see how he can concede, it's all or nothing. He probably feels (rightly) if he pulls back now it would weaken him irreparably and it would only be a matter of time before one of generals decides to take matters into his own hands and kill him.

I suspect he realised that after a few days, and especially as the heavier sanctions were placed. He doesn't want this to be seen as a waste of time to the Russian public.

The longer this goes on the more screwed Russia are, Ukrainians becoming better armed by the day and NATO countries planning to give them planes to use to enforce a no fly zone themselves.

Have the fast food companies pulled out yet? Can’t imagine any western company doing business with Russia, just due to the backlash alone, regardless of sanctions. Cancel culture has finally paid it dues.

I'm sure I saw something earlier about McDonald's were in discussions about pulling out.

It’ll be interesting if they do start pushing back. Where do they stop? What does Putin do if he starts losing the rebel held territory. Would love to see it.

Depends on the resolve in the south to fight on the Russian side, taking rebel held land is way into the future, but imagine how militarized that front is going to become from a Russian side!

Thought that was thrown out after Putin basically said "bad idea".

Russia does have quite a few reservists though I believe? The tricky part is getting them all over to Ukraine and the financial cost of doing so.
Risky though for Putin calling up reservists as that be an obvious sign to the Russia people that things aren't going well for them. If the attrition on the Russian army keeps up he will have no choice though but to call them up but at that point his position is will be weakened.

Yep true, I'd worry he'd be more heavy handed with shelling before it got to that stage though.

Guys, I'm hearing from my sources that VISA have suspended operations in Russia.

Breaking.

:D Well played!

I thought the UK were getting criticised for not putting more sanctions on Russia yet Russia are saying the UK are the worst.

Well maybe in this thread by people looking for some excuse to moan about the Tories etc..

Back in reality the UK has been leading on this from the start tbh... both the weapons shipments and trying to give other European nations a kick/push to get them on board etc.. it's only after the invasion that the likes of Germany have jumped in and sent weapons etc.. (which turned out to be old stock in bad condition).

No, they're saying UK were the one's leading the calls for sanctions, not that theirs were the worst. Boris was calling for swift exclusion fairly early but really it needed EU and US to agree. Eventually EU did.

edit: Russia really has North Korea'd itself. One good thing that could come of this, in todays global economy no one country can get away with forcibly take over a whole other country like this. China will be taking notes.

Also, things like asset seizures, the individual symbolic stuff like the two yachts in France and Germany have been nice for headlines, the UK has frozen plenty of assets of Russian banks though and that's going to hurt granted the UK is a big financial center so has lots of assets here to freeze but still that + the UK taking the lead here in both warning about Putin and pushing others to sanction could well be annoying Putin.

And supplying them in the field, supporting them etc.. It's not like all the troops they have on paper are even capable of being deployed into combat tbh... Also, domestically, a full mobilisation is a rather obvious tell to the population that something about this "special military operation" that only a minority are protesting and state TV is saying is fine etc.. perhaps isn't going fine after all and there is a bit more to it than they're being told.

So Putin is faking some videos now? Has this been verified on the original video?

I think it wasn't fake and actually just an artefact of the video being compressed. Still, never let something like that get in the way of trolling the leader of the nuclear power trying to take over your country and kill you.

Waiting for putin to ramp up.

He's already upped the rhetoric about sanctions being equivalent to declaring war.

My bet is more barbaric weapons used on Ukraine as a start :(

Watch the video and make your own mind up, I said earlier I personally think it's fake because Putin seems to have that blurred "aura" that people have around them when green screen is used, it's basically uncanny valley, looks real enough but something is just "off" with it
