Are you conflating asylum seekers with illegal immigrants? It would not be the first time someone of your "disposition" would do this to fit their blinkered biased narrative. I would suggest that someone seeking asylum via legal means is most likely going to have what they feel legitimate reasons to assume their application has merit. The illegal immigrants on the other hand would know they have no chance getting a visa, so use illegal means of entry.

Asylum statistics - House of Commons Library (parliament.uk)
  • In 2020, there were around 6 asylum applications for every 10,000 people living in the UK. Across the EU27 there were 11 asylum applications for every 10,000 people. When compared with EU countries, the UK ranked 14th out of the individual countries in terms of the number of asylum applications per capita.

You're assuming the two are always different. If someone's bid for asylum is not legitimate and they do not leave when required, then what are they?

Shock as island is harder to get to than mainland Europe...

Anyone care to explain why the U.S ,U.K . France and China has failed to act on the Budapest Memorandum? Going by what’s going on now no one in there right mind will ever give up Nukes.

Because the Memorandum does not commit them to use force, it's only Russia that has broken the memorandum. I mean it's right there in your link.

Nowhere did I assume that at all.

I just realised I am getting into a debate with a blinkered xenophobic racist and that's never a good idea.

Your statement asking if I'm conflating them shows you to believe they are two independent groups.

Want me to catch your dummy and return it to you?

I think Odessa will be a possible the turning point for NATO , it then cuts if the whole of the Black Sea for all of the Ukraine and makes a staging post to Invade Moldova . Like I’ve said sooner or later we’re goi g to have call Putin Bluff and play Nuclear Poker with him .

It is worth bearing in mind that the Budapest Memorandum only gives assurances, but it does not impose a legal obligation of direct military action against aggressors. Russia alone has breached the memorandum, not the rest of the signatories.

Well, that's how airborne units work, they're VDV, their vehicles need to be light enough to be transportable and capable of being dropped, all their units have some light armoured vehicles though some are only partly mechanized and are mostly light (airborne) infantry. They were the guys who tried the helicopter assault on day 1.

It's not so much that they were deployed with light equipment, there is a role for light infantry in general, but rather they were largely unsupported and in various instances (not just the attack on Hostomel airfield) they've ended up being cut off. Possibly one of the issues is that they're not just a corps or regiment within the Russian army but they're a separate branch of the armed forces entirely (sort of how the USMC is in the US)... Maybe the Russians aren't so great at coordinating different services/working together etc..

Here is a spoof version of one of their videos:

:D

That is part of it but in many cases they've also lacked for the heavier end of the kit within their role. It is weird seeing so many of the lessons from WW2 being replayed out again with the Russian forces - so often with VDV, etc. it is like all the screw ups of Market Garden all over again and several instances of complete wipes of convoys sent in narrow file, without dismounted support, into bottlenecks with the classic of taking out the lead and rear vehicles leaving them trapped and in disarray.

I’m fine with them coming here, have the correct checks and stuff in place to reduce the risk of problems, but I think we should allow it.
We do.

The head wobblers appear to think we should not follow due process at a time when direct threats are being made against the country.
