I wonder how long it will be before people at top level realise Putin has lost the plot and oust him from power.

I think their political system has been engineered to be resistant to any challenge to Putin and designed to stop a public uprising from happening with tight state control.

I'm still looking for sources you'll happily accept, in the meantime here's the US embassy in the Ukraine outlining some programs and upgrading labs to bio level 2

https://ua.usembassy.gov/embassy/ky...n-office/biological-threat-reduction-program/

Small correction, it states Biosafety level 2.

Common sense would dictate that you would need labs in the first place for them to reach that level of safety, so no argument from me about the existence of the labs.

Now googling bio-safety levels I came across this website
https://consteril.com/biosafety-levels-difference/

Now rather than quoting the whole page I will just paste their basic explanation that covers bio-safety levels. If someone wants to read more into it then the link is above.

These levels, which are ranked from one to four, are selected based on the agents or organisms that are being researched or worked on in any given laboratory setting. For example, a basic lab setting specializing in the research of nonlethal agents that pose a minimal potential threat to lab workers and the environment are generally considered BSL-1—the lowest biosafety lab level. A specialized research laboratory that deals with potentially deadly infectious agents like Ebola would be designated as BSL-4—the highest and most stringent level.

If these labs have just been upgraded to bio-safety level 2 then this does not sound like they were creating/studying world ending infectious agents.

I hope you do understand that these labs are needed in detecting and reporting outbreaks caused by dangerous pathogens.

Gee whizz, I wonder if there might be something that happened in recent years that might make countries spend more money researching defence against pathogens?

This Russian misinformation campaign is as lame as their armed forces.

Is there a special camp for re-education at the end of the march? You literally couldn’t make this stuff up, I still don’t see how Russia manages to control the whole of the Ukraine without a massive permanent military presence assuming the Ukrainian people don’t decide to accept Russian rule which seems unlikely.
Especially now each and everyone of them will have felt either human loss or the loss of their secured future (wealth, assets, possessions, their homes).

I worked for years in Biosafety level 2 labs. These are not remotely hardcore, your local university probably has some. Pop down to the supermarket, pick up an organic chicken breast and - congratulations! - you've got a handful of bacteria that require biosafety level 2 to work with.

It doesn't scare me, but it does sort of feel like we are just fighting a proxy war against Russia now.
Everyone is going to pay for this war literally, watch petrol and diesel goto £2 a litre.

Some of my customers are old people in the sticks I don't know how they will afford to pay for there fuel, it's all gone crazy and if they ban russian crude it will be even more.

Yep, big increases coming for fuel, so we'll be forced to use less.

I'm off to do my second "early panic buy" later. I'll be getting a load of pasta and flour, at least, as russia/Ukraine produce something like 15% of the world's wheat...

Given the amount of abuse I've received for simply asking people to ask questions it's simply not worth posting here.

Carry on as you were everyone, delete the posts you don't like and ridicule people who you don't agree with.

Don’t give up that easy fella. We live in a free country alledgedly, your opinion is equally as important don’t let them attempt to bully you. They will throw out childish insults such as comrade and bot but you can find it as amusing as I do.

Thanks for a little bit of humanity at least. Everything seems so binary these days with no room for nuance or discussion.

Every time I post here I invariably regret it so I've learnt my lesson this time.

Yeah it’s just tribalism mate if you stand outside the tribe they will try and bully you. Bullies are weak so treat them as such.

We're just asking you to post sources, so we can verify what you're saying.

They're making bombs out of chickens you say...

It's done. No one cares anymore.

All the people that shouted about covid 24/7 have suddenly forgot about it. The media has directed them to something else.

It truly is amazing to see how quickly people change.

I've got covid :) The media moves on rapidly all the time. Remember when we were talking about UFOs a few months ago.. its like they never existed or something!

No it would be 4 days as the Brits will like to stop for

Not really, if they take Kiev in the next couple of days then he will become a Hero and the work is done in their eyes at least. Its then down to the West and how long we can keep sanctions in place. My guess is not very long as we want the money.
His hero status might not last long if the Ukraine turns into another Chechnya with a continuous stream of body bags heading back to Russia from guerrilla fighting. The deciding factor will be as you say how long the west keeps up with sanctions, how far we are willing to go to wean ourselves off Russian gas/oil and how long the west is willing to arm a Ukrainian resistance.

Not bombs, ffs, use your head.

They're bioweapons

Allegedly they've enlisted Dr Alphonse Mephisto due to his ground breaking work in genetically engineering turkeys in the past.
This was good

Well that is where Chicken Kiev comes from! No wonder the Ruskies invaded to prevent weapons of mass destruction.
This is spectacular

Cluckster bombs
This is a definite honourable mention :D:cry:

I paid $1.74 per litre for the cheapest available fuel today. Would have cost me ~$2 for premium.

The religious element in Russia could be interesting after they arrested that priest recently.

The Russian Orthodox Church has always been a strong government ally. They won't raise any fuss if Putin arrests a few outspoken priests.

We wouldn't be full up if the EU had addressed their migrant problem in the first place. They let unlimited numbers pour into their external borders and then didn't actually want them and turned a blind eye to them massing at Calais. From there they've done very little to prevent them crossing the Channel so we've ended up with tens of thousands this year already. We don't have unlimited funds to house these people.

Well from France's perspective if it halts the flow then it's responsible for them.

I agree every country has a limit in terms of expenditure for supporting people seeking to become a member of the country. Low GDP countries are often the most corrupt and with the largest gap between rich ruling and poor surviving. So how do you solve that? If you provide aid then ethically you're doing the right thing but reality is that simply allows the rich to spend less and leave more to the aid (if they're not already syphoning aid payments).

Corruption enables corruption. People see it as the natural way to live. Unfortunately the majority of the planet isn't a self-entitled fair balanced democracy.

So unless you change the country, then you'll always have that problem. Russia is simply seeding the equivalent of US influence.

Russia and China's weakness is it needs strict control, it needs a strict morality to control with minimal force. It needs passive workers with tightly controlled bright academics to think outside the box but not outside the system.

Size of the nation from the central point of control becomes unsustainable. There is a difference between the Roman Empire (needing to hybridise Roman and local beliefs to control etc) and modern internet based & AI monitor and control. The modern world allows, through digital infrastructure, the monitoring & compliance to expand the range of compliance and influence but it still takes time to remove the local beliefs and traditions.

I would expect Putin to raise Ukraine to the ground, both as a reflection of force but also to attempt to fast erase the local beliefs and traditions in favour of the centralised agenda without the need of Digital technology.

I believe that Putin's plan was to perform a German style fast blitzkrieg, running across all the buffer non-NATO countries. However the real state of the Russian army became apparent and he's now progressing in a war of attrition.
