I wonder if we could create electrolysis formed hydrogen on days where there is an excess of renewable energy? Seems a good way of using up that energy that would otherwise go to waste. We have no way to store it for when it stops pumping out energy for half the day - over half in winter.
UK has announced they will phase out Russian oil and gas by the end of the year
It's entirely of our own making, we should have been investing in Nuclear in the last 20 years but we let the eco hippies dictate policy and now we're screwed.
renewables aren't enough for our needs, they'll always be a short-fall, you been brainwashed
Yes we do. We have a number of ways. Google thermal storage and salt for a crash course.

Hi Captain, I am a lithium mine in china, I think we can do very good business![]()
Not on a national scale that can immediately meet demand changes on the grid that’s easily implemented now. Sure, there are plenty of theoretical small scale solutions. That said, if we had started this years ago we could have avoided this mess.
Someone needs to tell RRs share priceTotally agree.
Also micro generation is the way forward, highly localised power generation is the way to go, for the long term.
The next 5G mast debate on steroids IMO. I think they would make sense to co-locate with already deadly fuels e.g. petrol stations, especially as they convert to charging-station-cum-coffee-shop.Where are we on the SMR tech? Are they at a stage where it’s nothing more than a pie in the sky tech or do we have a chance of seeing them quickly, at least quicker than building another few giant nuclear plants?
edit just read https://world-nuclear-news.org/Articles/Rolls-Royce-on-track-for-2030-delivery-of-UK-SMR
anyone in the know, can/will this be accelerated? How would the public react is an SMR is built near them?
Edit probably the wrong thread to be fair, should probably post in the energy thread.
I can only find a reference to oil is there an announcement about gas as well? The west must be hoping this is enough to force Putin to agree terms so we can all go back to being 'friends' in time for next winter....UK has announced they will phase out Russian oil and gas by the end of the year
Hopefully he will come out and say he has an agreement with Eastern European countries to supply Ukraine with fighter jets and their available immediately.
There are people who are now dying of thirst in Mariupol because they can't get fresh water supply's and the Russians won't let the civilians leave. God I hope Biden for one in his 50+ year career comes out with something substantial and meaningful to help these people who are on the brink.
UK gas price futures have gone parabolic today, hitting £800 per unit at one point today. It used to average around £35
Energy prices are going to be brutal.
Biden has done nothing at all....
