Back to crop rotation, traditional farming methods and less reliance on fertilizer equals lower yields but not no yield.

Of course it's not no yield, but the point is the worlds population is sustained by the yields we do get from the way we do things now. The CEO of one of the worlds largest fert manufacturers was saying approx half the worlds population is sustained by the yield from fertilizer.

I know this'll make the "the world needs a cull anyway" people happy, but the reality of that sentiment isn't going to look pretty.

I dont think our economies will be collapsing, but its going to be yet another shock which requires adaption, we havent finished the other two yet
-Brexit
-Covid
-Ukraine war

Ukraine impact could make the others look tiny.

IMO what we are going to see is far more inflation, yet again supply chains are going to need to change, economics will take effect in regards items that came heavily from the area, the ability and availabilty of substitution will be key

I had a quote a new front door last month, was £1516 I put the order in today as its only valid for 30 days, once I paid, I went and re-did it, todays price was £2297 for the exact same door.
So it seems some dramatic price increases could be incoming, or it is just companies taking chances, either way this war will increase cost of living dramatically during 2022 and potentially further in 2023 if a solution is not found soon and by soon I mean this month, the longer it goes on for the more damage is down and the harder it is to reverse.

Ouch, thats a bit above the sorts of inflation I was talking about, but I can easily see it hitting double digits across many sectors and if that starts to get entrenched...
Hopefully they will not trigger a force majeure clause (assuming they have one)

There probably won't be twenty types of speciality bread on offer, just a plain brown wholemeal will do me. I take your point though, less yield either means more land under the Plough or exports go down and maybe imports increase.

Yeah the guy at the trade counter was like damn good job you got that order in today, lol. Thankfully that is pretty much the last job on the house to do, as prices had started to drop on stuff, but seems a lot of stuff is about to move back up again.

It's pretty obvious how it's going to go, they will spin the economic disaster into a "Look at the ruin that the West has brought upon us" and the Russians will mostly believe it and what comes next could be much worse than an invasion into Ukraine

It's obvious that this is going to happen.

Everybody was praising Germany for sending weapons did you see the stuff they sent some 1960's old soviet crap and the anti tank missiles are basic as well basically RPG's while we are sending state of the art stuff they have done bugger all just like the French.

I had a Glo-plug fail in the car last week, £120. I bought one from the same supplier June last year, £80. :(

Yep why it annoys me when people start bashing the UK when the UK has been the no.1 in support to Ukraine in the stuff they actually need, a means to defend themselves.

The cynic in me thinks that the west will want to drag this conflict out for as along as possible, really bleed Russia of its economy and military resources.

There will be plenty to benefit from defence contracts and weapons manufacturing, and could prove to be quite lucrative for the military industrial complex. It'll also continue to damage one of China's biggest partners.

If Putin wants in any to recover somehow from this mess he needs to seriously consider pulling out.

Unfortunately it's the Ukrainian and Russian people that will just continue to suffer if we don't find a route out of this, and quickly.
He won't give up the Russians are used to hardship so will put up with it the best thing we can do is give him a bloody nose so he will think twice about ever doing it again in future.

I think being more honest people were more praising the fact a sleeping giant in Germany has been awakened.
They have thrown off the national "we cannot get involved in war" and also picked up the pace in their military spend. They will exceed the UK quite quickly in annual spend if they push ahead with that.

Its not that surprising that a lot of their equipment was old and dubious when you consider where a significant portion of the nation was a few decades ago (other side of the iron curtain!)
Plus of course they haven't been spending sooo much on defence, although in recent years they were much much closer to the UK and France than people realise, you cant however turn that around over night.

I'm sure there are few older Brits not so happy to see high German military expenditure ;)
