Russia was only ever a superpower because of its size. Most of the population are still peasants on the land. The USSR bankrupted itself trying to match the USA. Economically it is quite small but with huge resources and managed properly could make its citizens wealthy. The trouble with Russia is that they go around killing people who disagree with them or in this case try a bit of 19th century imperalism, but the world has moved on. They are now poorer by virtue of very poor governance from the leader.

And you? Not sure why you feel the need to argue I am wrong when you are using second hand interviews versus my experience. Have you ever been to russia or are you just basing your view on films ? You know most terrorist actions are due to anger in their homelands right ? You saying that’s justified ?

I simple said the sanctions won’t work like people expect. There won’t be an uprising. Those who want to won’t due to fear of arrest.

This is based on my 2014 experience of being there when rubled halved with the previous sanctions. (120rub/£ peak) and people got on with it. Germany already getting cold feet on what they did a week ago

You didn't simply say sanctions wouldn't work. You said I was wrong about their being a significant number if people supporting Russias actions.

Some really nasty people in here. It's one thing supporting Ukraine, it's quite another to wish ill on a mostly innocent population.
Innocent...maybe but it's a fair assumption to say he has widespread general support for his crimes and if you support this level of rampant barbarity, trampling over other peoples democratic freedoms and rights for self determination then there is a price to pay and they will pay it. If they don't like or think the price isn't worth it they can turn against their government but until that point the Russian populace doesn't get any sympathy from me (they put him there at the end of the day).

Checks my location
Haven't you been told to leave by the FO?
Unfortunately for the average Russian, they are on 'the wrong side' in this war, so have to suffer the consequences. I remember being quite upset when I first read about German civilians getting firebombed in WW2, but it is what it is.
War is always horrible for the little people, most of whom just want to live their lives.

Canceled my flight last Saturday.

I sincerely hope what/whoever you have over there is ok sir. My previous post holds my opinion that such massive sanctions are more likely to increase support for Putin/Russia rather than cause an uprising. The Capitol riot would never happen in Russia. We know we have to do it, but be aware of the outcome it is naive to think otherwise!

Problem is the actions they are told are not the actions we see. So what actions are they supporting ?

You think it’s possible to vote him out ?

It's pretty open knowledge that the chappy in charge of the Ukraine is Jewish. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to therefore work out that the 'denazification' line is rubbish.

Think the main point was some anti-tank stuff they sent was reportedly from 1990s and not functional.

Just to clarify - Germany sent 500 modern US-made Stinger MANPADS, 1000 modern PzF3 Anti-Tank systems and 2700 older Strela/Igla MANPADs which the Ukraine already uses (so no extra training) however around 700 were unusable due to rocket motor cracks so they "only" got 2000 usable anti-air missiles supplied - all of that plus helmets, body armour etc and all of that for free.

The only people I hear complaining about all of that additional help aren't Ukrainians, who are already using the PzF3 against the Russians whilst fighting for their lives, but internet keyboard warriors who aren't currently fighting for their lives with the additional equipment countries have provided for free.

Anyone got a good russian website that speaks the truth I have a friend in Russia in complete dental :(
He needs to look around. Companies pulling out of Russia, Russian stock market not operating and soon Russia is about to default. There will be loads of job losses there soon when the state can no longer prop things up.

The world didn’t suddenly decide it was going to cut Russia away from everything for no reason. Until they invaded Ukraine they were slowly growing more connected to Europe and were a positive contributor to the world. Russia could have remained a superpower but now will be nothing once this is done. Either Putin is going or Russia will fall. I could even foresee the regions of Russia breaking up into more countries as they aren’t very tightly bound together already.

This word means something else to them. It’s the attacking of people in eastern Ukraine due to being Russian (race attack) since 2014. And they believe the azov is engrained into Russian military. This is why some seem to support sadly. Much like the retaliatory comments in here

Here's a spicy red hot take. Fortunately it's been condemned by church leaders:

Since Russia invaded and annexed part of another country? Ah yes, more peaceful Russian actions! Have these people not noticed that no third party country has/has attempted to annex part of Russia? Its one way traffic...

It really does show just how terrible Russian government has been for centuries that a country so rich in land and resources has people who are so poor.

So now Russia have committed pretty much all their forces into Ukraine with no further forces coming (apparently), what is Russia’s next move here? They aren’t progressing, are taking significant casualties and losing lots of equipment.
