Surely you cannot be claiming that Russian voters don't know what's happening in Ukraine. We know that they know, because there have been protests about it in Russian streets (admittedly, protests so small as to be utterly negligible).

As my Polish colleague said today. Russians don’t operate on Western logic. They decide to do things without thinking about it too much and they are just crazy. It’s no surprise they came unstuck in Ukraine but what they do next is anyones guess

The balkanization of Russia is something that could happen. Despite there being pro-Russians in Chechnya. if they had a sniff of independence I think they would take it.

Plus China has their Power of Siberia projects. Perhaps they gave Russia a tacit green light in the hope of picking up the pieces at a later time.

To be fair that's a pretty uncomplementary statement and the Polish have no love of Russia!

lol of course not but as I mentioned he has widespread popularity even though Russians have been shown what Putin is all about for years now. Killing of opposition leaders, rampant corruption/Putin's Palace, use of chemical weapons on civilians yet despite all that he has a 60%/70% approval rating? If your Russian and you think that's ok or it's somehow for the greater good then you get what you deserve.

I make no apologies when I say this but the Russian's have had this coming for a long time, it's long over due and I hope it hurts (to the extent of a significant change to people's standard of living but not so they end in absolute poverty). We can't invade Russia, replace the government and de-sovitise them like the allies with the de-nazification in post war west German, for Russian's to change it needs to come from within. They need to wake up and be educated that rampant barbarism is not a hallmark of an advanced and forward thinking nation and that 'looking strong' can be shown in many other ways, how that happens I don't know but the for sake of the Russian people they better find someone who can do this.
