basic when i did it a v long time ago was you packed your m8s chute, as you might take shortcuts on your own, but you'll never do it on someone else's chute for fear of killing them, and indeed army might not, but i thought one had a reserve?

Depends whether its a low altitude jump or not. If its so low I believe they don't bother with reserves vut might be wrong.
They jump with a chute they pack.. "themselves" that they then stow for later for whatever purpose.
I must confess im a bt out of touch with Russian air bourse doctrine though....
First Chechen War , Russia lost (1994 to 1996) . Second Chechen War, they committed 80,000 troops vs 30,00, it lasted 9 months of major hostilities and they reportedly lost 2000 in that phase of the action and a further 5000 soldiers, police, interior ministry para militaries in the 9 years that followed for a total of around 7000 ish. However the Union of the Committees of Soldiers' Mothers of Russia , an all female NGO, of mothers of dead and wounded conscripts, claim the real number is over 14,000.
Ukraine so far stands at around 4000 Russians dead so far (US estimate from there own intel) and with the usual battle math or ratio of 4 to 1 a further 16000 wounded in 14 days.

It's Stalingrad all over again. Only instead of a rifle without any rounds you get a pack without a chute.

When the West attacked Iraq, Western citizens protested in their millions. This is clearly a popular war in Russia.I thought Putin would switch to a more sophisticated strategy as he approached Kyiv. I was wrong. He is determined to flatten the place.

I don't see how they can win if Ukraine is prepared to fight to the death, even if they raize Kyiv they will never take it, they don't have the numbers, Ukraine have 800,000 men and women with military experience, 1000's of foreign fighters with more pouring in every day and millions more willing to fight. All Russia have is massive firepower which they use to terrorize civilians.

Kyiv is a completely different beast to Grozny, the only sensible (if you can call it that) way to flatten a city of that size is through nuclear bombardment.

There are videos of Russian pilots parachutes not opening after they have ejected
so we should assume every Russian parachute is the same? ejected from what? from what altitude?
there's videos of parachutes opening, I personally didn't see any of the videos of parachutes not opening.
goggle suggests 2 people died a year or so ago during Russian training for parachutes not opening though.
it's probably a minority but anyway the source of the guy making the claims is a racing driver with 64k followers. he then follows up with a bunch more crap his whole twitter is probably anti Russian propaganda
if it's on twitter it must be a true? even if it's not a well respected journalist making the claims it seems.
