He's lost the plot... Anyone that believes this will end at Ukraine is in for a rough time. This mess needs dealing with in another way now and I hope his people on the inside deal with him as this is going to end really bad for everyone including the people in his country, he will soon start doing public executions of his "scum and terrorists" as he puts it to scare the public from uprising against him.

Something is really off with him now and not his "normal" behaviour, anyways we will see and we will keep watching while this all gets worse and worse. The longer this runs the worse it is going to get to the rest of the world now and his sights are clearly not just on Ukraine.

People are still struggling with a mentality of this can't be happening in the 21st century IMO, people don't make speeches like Putin just did purely for theatrics. I'll be very surprised if this ends with Ukraine.

It occurred to me that if China negotiate cereals from Russia for their own supply, they can also do it for African states to increase influence.

Wasn't China already having issues with food before this? Not sure how much they can get away with doing that all the while Russia requiring more of it's own supply for itself. India has a surplus nowadays so maybe they'd make the most out of it?

And to think some people in this thread earlier on were saying the comparison to Hitler was sensationalist, how wrong they were!

What will be interesting - given the Orthodox and Vatican have talked.. is what the rhetoric causes. Putin, supported by the orthodoxy. Vatican who is heavily within countries such as Africa, France etc that have population that identify as target of Putin's bile. Perhaps they're both happy to burn the heretics? We didn't see any outcome or documented comments from that meeting.

Yes, it had occurred to me that India could provide however (as others have pointed out) India has it's own issues. It could make money, but how much could it spare before it impacts its own population?

I find this whole thing quite disturbing - for many years Putin did act with a degree of rational and shrewdness to keep the strategic position Russia vs West (and other opposing entities) in check and balance. I wasn't under any delusion it would always stay that way and he might very well have a long term goal of furthering Russian interests in a far more extreme way but I didn't expect to see things deteriorate this quickly, especially as things haven't gone how it would appear he wanted them to go he seems to be showing more and more signs of insanity which I don't think are just theatrics.

Although the state of maintenance and actual quality of the materials and production is shocking the losses mostly stem from how they are using them - there seems to be a mentality still of advancing as if they are the Russian horde when they have 10, 20 even 30 times less numbers than that strategy requires - and it doesn't work if you trickle in replacements either.

*China’s President Xi Is to Exchange Views with Biden on Topics of Mutual Concern – Xinhua..

That sounds very diplomatic "one way" communication with little scope of diplomatic negotiations about Russia in general. Ukraine many not be a "mutual concern" but Taiwan may be.

I wonder how many missiles are auto targeted on non EU/US/UK targets? There must be some targeted at China. I assume those aren't attached with the Dead-hand automated retaliation system. If so accidents can and do happen.

Subtitled version of Putin's recent speech:

Disturbing stuff.

I don't think Mr. Putin has caught Political Correctness disease, whatever else he may have.... ;) Not sure why anyone might be surprised by this speech, many in here have applauded splitting the people of Russia and bringing down her government from within, did they think Putin wouldn't notice the ploy?

Russia are already pulling grain exports from their "friend" nations in the Eurasian wotsit. I don't think China are going to be getting that kind of excess. Russia is also going to struggle to meet its normal production level due to sanctions. Fortunately companies like Bayer are, for not, refusing to pull out so it's not as bad as it might have been. Either way, I can't see Ukraine managing much agriculture this year.

And, of course, if Mugabe hadn't devastated Zimbabwe's agriculture in the early part of this century, Africa would have far less need of imports. These things compound.

Well there's no point wasting warheads on countries that aren't a threat as keeping some post-war would be necessary, but in an exchange between the US and Russia there's no way China will escape it unharmed as crass as it sounds.

Quid pro quo considering he's been doing it to us, fairs fair.

Russia flying a ton of stuff back and forth (not sure on specific direction of travel) from Kaliningrad today - don't like the look of that.

Neither does NATO from the looks of the Swedish air force ISR flight (EDIT: And a UK Rivet Joint).

There seems to be a lot of movement of planes going east towards Yamantau which is speculated to be a nuclear bunker of some sort, it just seems that we are close to a fine line of what is next to come. Putin whether bluffing or not is making a lot of threats to the US that they will pay a hefty price so it wouldn't surprise me if we see the news about a missile that was "not nuclear" hitting somewhere in the US desert. But i suspect that would be straight to Article 5. all these false flags and everything going on hell knows whats next.

Could be bluffing - but I checked a bunch of those flights and they are regular ones for those specific aircraft when they do fly.

Some odd air movements in general today - just had an Airbus A400M come over my house at ~175 feet and only just cleared the top of a hill nearby and seems to be flying a very erratic pattern almost an "under the radar" kind of run.
